So, have been sitting on a pile of close to 1000 LC Brass for my norc, picked up the SS 600 last year but just now getting around to using it. I have been trying to set it up for the least swage possible, but it's proving trickier than I'd have imagined.
First of all, I have all the brass sorted out by headstamp #, and am working on the 1st batch. Have been turning the swage rod in and out slightly as I am priming as I go until I get it set correctly.
One thing I notice, is that occasionally after swaging there will be a very fine brass ring(Loose filing) left in the primer pocket. Am assuming that's part of my problem, as if I haven't noticed it before priming, it may be preventing me from seating the primer fully.
I was hoping after sorting the brass, it'd be fairly consistent, but I may have swaged some of it previously so that could also be a factor, as some are quite resistant to the swage and some swage very lightly.
So, the brass filing I am occasionally finding, is that an indicator of over-swaging? I understand that swagers aren't supposed to remove material - could I have gotten a dud?
Are the LC brass primer pockets just not as consistent as I had hoped they would be?
Thanks in advance.
