Hello,

Im new to the forum. My name is Jaret, and Im from Saskatoon, Sask. Looking for some advise in regards to which unit to go with. Price is not the issue, because after all is said and done there is menial difference between the 2 in cost.

My biggest hurdle is product availability, and convertibility.

This Dillon is a smooth machine, no doubt about it. And I am leaning towards it unless some can help me out with a few facts about the Hornady, so I ask you all this.

Does the Hornady ammo plant do all rifle calibers? I know it say convertible for the .30 gauges, but does it do .243, .270, 7mm magnum, etc.
The main thing that attracts me to the Hornady is availability of parts in my local stores, whereas I have to order straight from Dillon.

I guess id like to know peoples thoughts. I have read acrashb's post, very informative. His post is what has left me in the possibility of running a Hornady vs the Dillon.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Kind regards,

Jaret

A lot of people have trouble doing 223 on the LNL. The cases tip over a lot when they go over the slot for the case retention spring if you try and go too fast. I just switched from the LNL to the XL650 for that reason. I can crank the handle as fast as I can on the XL650 and it feeds the 223 cases perfectly. The Dillon has a much more reliable case feeding system. It catches the rim and guides the case to the shell plate. On the LNL, nothing captures the rim when the case moves from the drop location to the shell plate.

There is also an opening on the LNL case feeder that allows cases to sometimes fall inside where the motor is instead of going down the drop tube.

I have a 650 and like it quite a lot. There are dealers in Canada that stock Dillon parts/accessories, so you're not restricted to ordering soley from Dillon USA.

I would get the dillon but that's just me.
It is generally accepted as the best progressive at this price point.

I believe the hornady is the best progressive for the money. Their almost equal, The lnl has the top spot with me due to caliber change over. Quicker and cheaper. Other then that they will both produce the same thing!

They are on par for costs when all is said and done.
I dumped the Hornady and kept my Dillon gear.
While the Hornady kit is pretty decent, I prefer the 650. Ymmv.

First off, Id like to thank you all for the input but,.... you aren't making this easy. I cant find Hornady in Saskatchewan with a availability factor (havent called them though), and as for Dillion, lots in stock at the factory, but locally Im hearing 10 to 12 week back order.

Let me ask you guys this. To change gauge to gauge. Say .223 to a 7mm mag then to a .45; who is the fastest, most economical, fastest delivery in both product and end result.
