Has anybody had occasion to either use, or at least see, one of the GSI International Bullet Feeders "in action" on a Dillon XL650?

I've seen their promotional videos and they make it look very slick indeed. If it really works that well, it would be an asset.

It's costly, and very caliber specific, but if one was only concerned about loading one caliber (say .45 ACP) and you were always going to use copper jacketed/plated bullets, it looks like this thing would be a very handy attachment.

I understand the fellow who designed and markets this unit used to work at Dillon.

They have been around for a while, so theoretically they should have the bugs out of it by now. ANybody know much about them?

Thumbs up? Thumbs down?

Comments?

My buddy has one. after trying my Mr. Bulletfeeder (it was a KISS when i bought it) he was ready to sell it. he ended up doing some heavy modifications to it and finally got it running where he can at least do a 100 rounds without it jamming.

I tried one on my 1050. I bought it second hand so I don't know if it was an early model or not...but besides the fact that it didn't actually work ...having to relocate the case feeder made it next to impossible to load primers into the press. I also found the replacement tool-head to be a bit rougher than the stock Dillon part.

I would hope that was addressed in subsequent updates...but none the less...it's over priced, over complicated...and wasn't reliable. Your milage may vary...

PS...get a Mr Bullet Feeder. ;)

Agreed, how often do you hear that the cheaper solution is actually the better one?

I tend to think the Mr.BulletFeeder might be even better suited to the 650 than the 1050.

Thanks guys. Doesn't sound like either of them are really worth it. The GSI doesn't appear to work very well, and the Mr. Bullet messes up the powder cop station - so no advantage to that.

It was just a thought. Think I'll just carry on as is without one. Save the money and buy another press :)

You won't miss the powder check station...the bullet feeder is far better use of that space

I have never used a powder checker so i never missed it. i always figured it was a waste of space. when i run out of primers i do a visual scan of the powder , bullets, brass as i load the primers. Generally i load primers, a couple of handful of bullets, and check the other two and fill as needed. usually i get about 400 rounds on the brass and about 800 rounds on the powder.

Here's a nice video of RCBS feeder on a 650:

This guy seems to know his stuff, look at his other videos...

With regards to RCBS bullet feeder, I see some complaints about having to bell the case mouth too much with expander die, but thats probably true of all bullet feeders. Since I don't own one I can't really say.

Actually no...

I had to really reduce the bell when I added the Mr Bullet Feeder. Too much bell (other than weakening the case mouth) will cause the bullets to tip.

I was actually surprised at how little bell I need now.

I'll give them a few more years to work the bugs out of them. Eventually somebody will come up with one for the Dillon that really works reliably "all the time" - and does not require the powder check station. I know a lot of people don't worry about the powder check, but I like that added double check on things. These old eyes are getting tired, and every little bit of insurance helps.

You don't need to bell a whole lot in my experience with the Mr.Bullet Feeder, as it relys more on the weight of bullets in the column to tamp the bullet into the case.
