hey guys,

i have an XL650 with case feeder that i purchased set up for 9mm and i would like to get all the necessary parts for 45ACP conversion. what do i need to purchase?

so far i know i need the following:
-quick change assembly (comes with tool head, tool head stand and powder measure)
-conversion kit (comes with shell plate, locator buttons, powder funnel and case feed adapter parts)
-die set
-case feeder plate

is there anything else that i need?

You only really need the feed plate and conversion kit. The quick change is a great convenience but not a necessity.
Case gauge would IMHO be a good addition to the list.

i forgot to mention that i want the conversion to be as easy as possible (ie. without having to adjust the powder measure and dies each time). lol

Another alternative to buying a measure for each cartridge you want to load is to convert your powder bar to micrometer adjustment using the kit from Uniquetek. The spreadsheet they provide allows you to build a curve for each powder so that it can tell you the correct micrometer setting for the charge you want to throw. I find that this gets you within "fine tuning" distance of your desired charge pretty fast. Better fine adjustment is worthwhile anyway, as the bolt adjustment does not allow you to set it and forget it in my experience.

I would consider a toolhead for every die set a must, though.

This page might be of interest to you. It basically lets you know what pieces of the conversion kit you will need, or if you need the complete conversion kit. It depends on what calibre your converting to. It might be more cost effective to get only the parts needed as opposed to the whole kit. You do have to price out parts, then make your decision.

thanks everyone.

i will just grab the kits to save myself the hassle of having to buy individual parts direct from dillon and support a local business at the same time.

If you are using Large Pistol Primers, you'll also need:

XL650 Primer magazine, Large (Stock #22033)
Rotary Primer Disc, Large (Stock #13431)
Primer Seater Assembly, Large (Stock #21380)

These were difficult to source in Canada, I had to order these from Dillon directly.

Alternatively, you could just load Small Pistol Primer .45 and save the hassle.

Yup! Those look like the right ones.

Strange that I didn't get those with my 650!

Those are probably the hardest parts to swap when changing to .45, but not too bad overall.
