Hello,

I've reloaded over 1000rds of 9mm so far and this machine is amazing! Besides little flecks of powder bouncing out of cases when it's auto indexing, it really pumps out rounds FAST and precise once I get everything tuned.

Now, the problem is, maybe 2% of the primers don't fall into cup, it misses it and drops on the floor. Now I have primers and little primer star plates (lack of better words) on the basement floor along with some powder and the occasional misaligned case in the sizing/decapping stage (3 second fix to push case into shell holder more). I'm thinking more lead issues to deal with.

Anyone experiencing this problem?

I'm already have enough issues with poor indoor shooting ventilation. Doh!

Sounds like the spent primer cup is not installed properly... I sometimes have them jump out of the cup but they don't miss..
Make sure you lube the base of the triangle and keep the stn 1 locator clean..

IIRC There are 2 versions of the cup...

the older one had a ledge on the side and slid in that way...
The newer one had a lip on the top..

Do you have the one the that slides in using the top or the sides...

AS well there are a few (maybe 3) different brackets for mounting them..

and are you mounting the cup with the chute away from you?

You can cut off a 223 case and expand the neck slightly, put it up into the casting(with a little loctite) and put a hose on the end. Run the hose to a bucket and no more mess or worry about spent primers. All of the dirt etc goes down the hose.

I had to file a little off the top lip of my primer catcher so it would slide in further, that stopped primers from missing the catcher.

make sure your primer chute is opening freely, if the retaining pin is too tight, the primer chute remains closed, mine was like that

Thanks for all the tips all!

I still don't know what I have. I'll take picture and post it tonight. Not sure how to proceed when I can't really see exactly what's going on. But all the tips here sound very good!

Oh, one more small beef about the Dillon. The collection try for live primers. It's so dinky, it can't hold more than 3 or so. It's worse when that dinky try gets filled with a tiny bit of powder. I'm reloading 9mm. Me thinks it's going to be bad if I end up loading something that fills the entire case with powder. But I've read some work arounds to make the auto indexing smoother.

The trick there is not to run the machine without cases..

Yeah, for sure. I ran into some problems in the beginning. The case feeder wasn't feeding cases from time to time and I crushed a few cases in the sizing/de-priming section too. I made some adjustments and now know how to detect if the case may get crushed. You see, when I pull down the lever, it goes bang. If that happens, I gently push case into shell plate holder and that fixes the problem.

Being a noob, I muscled it a few times thinking it was a really tough primer. Well, it wasn't. LOL!

My last batch was 350rds with a few pulling down lever 'bangs' in the decapping section that only required an extra 3 seconds of my time. Other than that, flawless. :)

As i tell everyone.. if it's tight don't force it.. you have tons of mechanical advantage.. You'll break, bend or bung something...

Find out what it is before going to far...

just wait until you have an upside down primer.... Those are fun

Oh yeah... I was behaving like a noob and deserved that I got. Pushing up lever to seat primer is another thing. That, I won't force like a complete fool. :)

primer loss : X2 antoine, I use a flap of electric tape to narrow the opening.
case misalignment : if the case slide doesn't push case in far enough, adjust the vertical camming pin(up) so spring on case slide pushes in further(use full stroke on handle, up & down).
Slow down when rotating case full of powder, keep index ball and spring underneath shellholder clean. good luck/

I believe that trimming the indexing ball spring fixes this - get a spare one first then, try it.

Amen - words to live by!
