Help please,I'm pulling my hair out. I have a Dillon XL650 press and I'm having a problem with the primer disc. The disc does not advance it just goes back and forth. It will move forward manually,I've called Dillon and they said to switch primers,,HA.I've taken it apart and cleaned the machine so many times,,I just can not find any problem.If anyone has any ideas please let me know. One of the small springs fell out on me and I couldn't figure out what happened. Eventually traced it to the Locator Tab Spring (Dillon Part # 13624) or you have an obstruction preventing it from indexing. You can order the spring only online, or you can order the spare parts kit which comes with a bunch of other stuff that wears out and needs replacing anyways.

Priming stations need to clean and adjusted precisely but it can easily trick you into thinking that's problem when the main shell plate disc shoulder bolt loosen itself off. Check the set screw holding the shoulder bolt for tightness regularly or better yet replace it with a knurled grub set screw. This will ensure keeping, a proper & more reliable distance, between the shell plate and the priming station which is critical for seating primer depth.

when you stroke the press, there is a black wedge on the right hand side and near the top of the press that is suppose to part number 6 which is suppose to rotate the primer disc. it is moving it enough to rotate the disk. also check to make sure that if you manually push on six that it moves the disk.
By coincidence my index return spring just broke yesterday evening. I spend half the night looking for my 650 spare parts kit which has never been opened. And I can't find it. Anywhere. It's like gremlins came into the drawers of my reloading room and took it away sometime during the past couple years. The feeling of owning a press that's "offline" is scaring me!
I'm going to try replacing it with a rubber band for now until a new one (plus a few spares) arrives. I don't know if it will work, but I gotta try something. Of course I could manually return the index thingy, but I don't want to.

Just to update, the rubber band works fine for now anyway. It was hard to position so that it didn't slip off the plastic peg though, but it seems to work once I swore a few times. It takes so little tension to move the indexer back, I'm surprised Dillon uses that tiny spring stretched all the way around the mainshaft. No wonder they include it in the spare parts kit.
