Yesterday I was reloading some ammo with my 550B in preparation for the IPSC provincials next weekend when my press started doing a weird clunking noise while raising the shell plate. After investigation I realized that the press-fitted carbide sizing bushing in the sizing die has become loose and was moving up and down in the die. After a few more reloads the bushing completely came out of the die. That die reloaded well over 10 000 rounds before failing.
Because I had to load ammo for the provincials I attempted to repair the die. I first tried applying some anaerobic bearing/bushing retaining compound onto the meeting surfaces and pressed the bushing back into the die with a vice. After curing I tried it and it lasted only for 2 rounds. I then tried again with some red loctite and it allowed me to load 400 rounds before becoming loose again. At least now I'm safe for the upcoming provincials.
I called their costumer support this morning and explained my problem. Without any hassle whatsoever they said that they will ship me a replacement one for free. Because I live in Canada they said that it wouldn't be cost effective for me to return the broken die upon receipt of the new one. So they also said that I could try crimping the die and/or silver soldering the bushing into the die. I'll probably try that while I'm waiting for the new die to arrive.
I am absolutely amazed by the quality of their service. I'll definitely buy from them again.
