Dinosaur Hunting! What would you use?

Dino Hunting

A realistic rifle that could be built by most on this forum would be a 500 A Square or a 550 Magnum. Both are based on the 460 Weatherby case necked up. PacNor has realatively reasonably priced 50 calibre barrels chambered for the 500 A Square.

Well I can't say I haven't thought about this before:D But I am sure my .338wm is enough gun. let the bastard swallow me and I will shoot my way out.
 
I think I remember hearing that an old native lady in northern Alberta killed a really big one with a 22 short one time. Not sure where I heard that though.
 
Looking at the fosil remains in the museum the vitals aren't that much bigger than those of a buffalo or the big bears. Hide would be tough and so would the skull. The weight was in the big back legs and the tail (much like many of the women where I work) . 375HH would be plenty of rifle with heavier controled expansion bullets. Head shots would be better of with solids. Brain was small so go for the side shot. Through the torso and through the wishbone and the lungs and out through the spine shot if he's facing you. Bet they were easier to kill than the movies make it out to be

Time Safari, by David Drake
Sci-fi, written I believe before 1981.
Main character used a M14 with custom Accelerator loads with solid tungsten bullets in the sabot. His job was as a guide and security.
Premise was time travel to Jurasic period to discover reason for extinction, and to bribe foreign diplomats and goverment officials to vote in favor of time traveler operation's country by offering the safari of a lifetime..

The reason that there atre no more dinosaurs is due to overhunting by gun hugging red necks!

Remember, if you kill it, ya gotta cook it and eat it!

If you need recipes, check with Stockwell Day, his grampa used to hunt them all the time down in the Alberta badlands!
