I won a shultz and larson 22 target rifle with diopter sights very small rear aperature with a front aperature. Thanks gunnutz and trade ex for the sweepstakes.

I am wondering when I aim should I be focusing on the front aperature as I would with a standard peep sight and front post or should I focus on the target and put the front aperature around it.

You have to use the correct target/aperature combo. You want the black target to take-up exactly 50% of the space inside the front aperature.
Fortunately there is much less worry with focus vs. a post front sight. I found when I was shooting 10m air-rifle that I naturally focused on the target and it instrinctively lined-up in the front sight.
Cheers,
Grant

I am guessing you mean rear diopter sight with a front globe sight.

Rear diopter should be somewhere around the neighborhood of an inch to a inch and a half eye relief for lack of a better discription. Front sight apature needs to match the target size in that you should see a small margin of white around the black circle so you can ceter the target in the apature. You really wont see the rear sight when you shoot and it is more like you are just centering the front sight on the target, breathe, squeeze and shoot. practice off the bench for a bit, if your getting a consitant group then you are doing something right.

I am grouping about 3 inches off hand at 25 yards. Can`t get into the benchrest as we still have several feet of snow. I will get a round black target to try out. I was shooting white pie plates against a snow white background not the best combination. I am still unclear on whether I should be focusing on target or the front apperature.

focus on the target, but both the target and the site will come into focus.

Do you have a post in the front now or a circle?
