diplomat upper opinions

I've done a search and found no reviews on the 7.5 diplomat upper yet. I'm currently running a stag lower on a 14.5 upper. I'd like to be able to switch to 7.5 once in a while, and saw socom's diplomat. I would just run some HK irons on it or rds, no magnified.

Anybody have experience with this particular one? I don't care much about the flaming pig, but perhaps is needed for function?
 
Socom will seldom have the Diplomat in stock. I used to have one and sold it. I am not too big fans of a very shorty upper in .223.
 
Wes @ MSTN builds them to run reliably. However they are considered across the room carbean ;)

When you factor the length of 7.5" with Noveske PIG its better to step up to 10.5" for similar overall length.

an alternative to the 7.5 was the minimoose which is a 10.5

Is there even a bullet heavy enough that would have any chance of fragmentation out of a 7.5?
 
The 100gr won't at the muzzle of a 7.5 - it will barely frag at the muzzle of a 10.3"

besides all the cool people use the BlackHills 70gr Optimized round ;)

Wouldn't it be a lighter bullet that would fragment more because of high muzzle velocity? I don't think 223 would fragment out of anything less than a 14.5". Even 11.5" is running around 2400 fps. Fragmentation, according to what I've heard, happens at greater than 2700 fps.
 
I'm cheap, I'd only be running 55gr at pistol range distances with 10.3 or 7.5. For anything else, I'd be using my 14.5, and then for longer would be spr, both with heavier grain.

questar isn't showing prices for this diabo upper. how much was it going for?
