Dirt Pigs 2015 Ontario

Who's the dummy shooting towards the tractor. Pretty irresponsible to do that and even film it.

A man's tractor is his to shoot. ;)

We have 1x ground hog on my friends entire farm, and I think he only comes out of his hole once every 3x years, lol.
No idea they would climb up on a post for a nap in the sun.

Sorry for the delay. I took a few pictures of it, then deleted them instead of emailing them to myself. Then I forgot about it.

The piece that my phone clips into is apiece of kydex I had laying around, I set it up so that I could keep my phone in my otterbox cover. For me the idea of taking my phone out of its case to clip it into a cheap case while toting it around a field seemed like a recipe for disaster.

The first picture is my original set up for a buddies spotter. It is the kydex piece glued and riveted to a plumbing fitting and then a rubber plumbing couple that has been cut down a bit for proper eye relief. This set up would slide right over the mag ring on a leupold 12-40. (The clips that have a mildot reticle in them)

Then I got a hold of an old bushnell spacemaster spotter I think it is. 15-40 or something, it's old and heavy but it works decently for spotting swirl and calling shots.
It conveniently has a hole in the casting at the top, so I bent up a piece of aluminum and riveted it to the other side of the case and drilled another hole in it. It bolts directly to the spotter. I find this set up a bit easier to work with, it is bigger and bulkier but I can focus everything and adjust zoom better this way.

CanuckR~I have to hand it to you~that's some fine shooting...and a great video. Just goes to show me...I'm not the only obsessed groundhog shooter here on CGN. :) (though I was starting to think I was!) I feel like joining the party and posting some photos from my spring/summer...but this is your thread and well..you MORE than deserve the spotlight sir!

243AI eh? Hmmmm.... I shoot primarily .223, but ran a .204R last summer. Effective as well, but I liked lobbing slightly heavier stuff at them. I'm currently fighting the urge to step-up to a .243Win....as I've seen what they can do even with sub-standard factory ammo~and I hand load. I suspect a good rifle, and proper bullets would make things pretty exciting. Curious to learn more about your rig, and why you chose .243AI over .243Win.

Again...great video, great shooting!

Post away, this isn't "my thread." shooting dirt pigs is pretty much my main hobby from the time they come out til the time they go to bed for the winter.

I decided to go with a 243AI so that I could hopefully get 243 speeds from a 20-22" barrel. When they barrel was new it was pounding 105's out at about 3125fps or so and was awesomely accurate. I have fond memories of covering up 5 round 300M groups with a single target paster. About 1500 rounds later I am running just shy 3000fps and it groups around .75MOA. It still kills stuff dead.

Like I said post some pictures.

Next year if I can, I want to get a hold of a Nikon P900 camera, 60x optical zoom, and film with that. I think it will be much less of a hassle from the filming side of it.

Thank you very much for filming and posting that, I really enjoyed it. Brought back a lot of memories and great times when we had more ground hogs to shoot than we new what to do with. I used a 22mag. and later the 30-06 with Speer 110gr. they would lift a ground hog out of the hole and split him in 3 sections if you caught him in the chest just right.

Nice shooting. CanuckR you mentioned 270 with 135g sierras , any insight on how those perform on yotes ? Running 90g Speer right now but I'd like to tone it down a bit from those 3500+ velocities.

Haven't shot anything but a few ground hogs with it. I am not sure if it'll be any better than the 90's. The 135's are doing 3100 or more I think. I don't see them being very nice on a coyote.

Off topic, but..
I just wish I had a place to shoot 300M ! Get some practice, see what it/I can do
Me and my .243 just get 100M at a bench.

Awesome shooting guys. Quite jealous.
Also..nice filming rig. Think I'll make one. Haha
