Put some sun screen, butter or oil on it. They can't breath and will back out on their own. Works in seconds.

If to do this they tend to spit stuff out infecting you with Lyme disease if they have it. It works but it's not the best way. Also the Lyme disease test in Canada is only about 50% effective for humans if you test the tick it is much more effective. Not to scare anyone but it is worth checking the tick if you have it. Many doctors in western Canada won't even believe or admit Lyme diseases in the area.

Lol ticks started pretty much down in southern Ont. Everyone is scared of them lol. Just pick em off and test them if they actually bit you. All local health units will send them away for testing.

Would be nice if they had a human preventative vaccine like they have for dogs. My dog gets Lyme shot every year.

My local MPP Toby Barret is really pushing for doctors up here to start giving a #### and diagnosing Lyme disease properly.

Was just talking to my new neighbour about her chickens at the back end of her acreage.
She said it's good to see them way yonder.
Oww come, askes I?
Cuzz they eat bugs.
Ohhhhhhhhh?
Ticks, we have lots of ticks upp'ear in Loogie Lake.
Never had a tick on me since moving up from the coast to Kamloops since the
early 70's.
Skeeterz's git me, though.

Tics.... Damn burrowing buggers

Was out in the bush last week collecting maple sap and found a tic dug into my lower belly. Then yesterday after cutting new trails at the hunt camp, found one dug into my upper leg. Tried the trick using a Q tip dipped in hot water circling the tic but it wouldn't come out. Eventually used tweezers and broke it in two. Damn.... Then had to dig out the remainder with a sharp pin.

The Q tip hot water trick usually works on the larger tics but these were smaller and also too small for the Tic Key device to pull them out. We've only had tics here in Eastern Ontario for about 4 or 5 years now and there's lots here now.

Definitely looking for a better way to remove them.

Dad put Minard's Liniment on his.
It was white, viscous, foul smelling stuff.
We also sniffed it to clear our nasal passages when we got head colds.
It killed the blood thirsty little suckers dead as a door nail as well as disinfected the wound.

Home town:bangHead:

A three-year research project done by Lyme Ontario found that adult ticks on Corkscrew Island have a 73 per cent infection rate, said research scientist John Scott, adding that those findings were quite unexpected.

"Yeah, we got a surprise, that was the highest [infection rate] ever recorded in Canada," he told CBC News.

"They've had higher rates along the east coast of the United States but this is the highest anywhere in Canada."

Corkscrew Island sits in Lake Of the Woods, southwest of Kenora, Ont. Scott said the findings of his research are concerning because there are homes and cottages on the island.

"They [residents] need to take special precautions to do tick checks at the end of the day for sure," he said. "They need to mow the lawn around their cottage, they need to keep the ... piles of leaves away from the buildings."
'Not totally surprised'

Scott, who has been researching the disease for some time now, said he first came across a case of Lyme disease in the Kenora area back in 1993, when a dog tested positive after being bitten by a tick.

Subsequent province-wide testing done over the next decade found more infected ticks around Kenora, he said.

Scott said he's found black legged ticks on other islands in Lake Of the Woods, but not enough research has yet been done to establish the rate at which they carry Lyme disease.

"We've got a lot of information on ticks off of different types of wildlife around the Kenora area," he said, adding that he's planning to publish another report soon.
