Yeah, I know they're Wood Ticks and supposedly don't carry disease...but I still hate the little bastards with a passion. 
I medicate my dog with a product that kills them but unfortunately requires them to bite first. The killing action is quick, and apparently they don't get to chew/suck on her long enough to transmit any disease. I find them dead periodically in her bed or even in her fur, and I inspect them very closely...yes, every single one. I have found a grand total of one Deer Tick on her after 5 Manitoba summers.
I've gotta admit, if there were a product for dogs that would effectively kill or repel the ticks before they bit, I would definitely be using it on her...and I'd probably be seriously thinking about taking and using it myself.
