A vert grip and a chunk of 1913 rail for an EOTECH are the next order.

How short is the barrel now?

Did you ditch the bipod in order to get the barrel that short or just because.

I got to play around with one of those at the peacekeeping centre, seemed like a pretty decent piece of kit, not sure why the russians would dump it for the RPK.

I believe one reason for the dropping of the RPD was the fact that it didn't have an interchangeable barrel (IIRC).
Of course the RPK doesn't have one either so ???

Nice one.
AFAIK, unification of small arms ammo was a major driver. RPD uses 7.62x54R, RPK uses 7.62x39, sam as AKs. PK is still using 7.62x54R, but it's normally used as mounted mg and for higher unit's fire support

I thought all RPD's and type 56 mgs were all chambered for 7.62x39 (m43)?.

bigdawg -- I honestly dont know -- its not a AK variant - but its an auto -- I wonder if you can get a Semi version made ?
I'm not a huge 7.62x39 fan (the .30-30 is as anemic) - but this babe is ###olicious

Longshot -Its a build gun for the team. I'll explain the story of this gun elsewhere ;)

why don't u like 7.62x39? these would awesome if we could get a semi auto version i love belt feds thats a very nice purchase and congratz
 
Kev did you guys cut the barrel down or did you find it like that?
That's what we are going to do to ours to give a bigger flash when fired from a helicopter.
 
RPDs are ####ing sweet. 20lbs fully loaded and they have an awsome ROF. Run a few belts through it and make those handguards steam!

Those shorties are begging for a 45 degree VFG though, it was kindof awkward holding around the drum.
 
The russians may have dropped the RPD early but alot of other soviet block countries kept pumping them out. RPK doesnt tend to have a great reputation for what it was replacing.
