This one was ads as ''Mosin Nagant sniper scope'' but its rather an svt scope that seems to be orignal and un-refurbed.
Lots of rust on the tube but tourets works well and the lens are in good condition.
Removed the extra rust using clp and tooth brush for now. Not sure if I should go for a deeper cleaning.
I like the way it looks right now :)

Rust is an active process. I would be interested in the opinion of serious ( By that I mean, fanatic , white glove, humidity/temperature controlled serious collectors) as to best way to keep this scope in the best possible original condition. Should something be done to halt further rusting?

1. Don't put it on a Mosin Nagant - it is an early PU scope and it is not marked "CB" on the turret - it belongs on a SVT Sniper and would likely be calibrated for that rifle/mount system. Early scope were re-calibrated and recycled on PU snipers but they would have a "CB" marking on the turret - showing that they were calibrated for a Mosin Nagant rifle/mount system. However, there are some exceptions of PU snipers that have turrets without the "CB" marking but they are an exception and not the norm.

2. Restore or not to restore? I would either oil it - but rust can still work where the oil does not penetrate. Laquer/Shelac (this finish can be removed) this deprives O2 frand would slow down rust much more thoroughly. Or clean it with a brass/bronze brush - most of the rust looks like surface rust and the scope should be blued versus painted so it should be restorable.

.

Turrets with no CB markings are normal for any PU scope produced specifically for MN. CB is designation of re-calibration of SVT PU scope and no proper PU scope produced for MN should have "CB".
