You know what the disadvantage of a bayonet lug on an M-14s or M305 shortie is...

Well,.... the bayonet won't lock on....... I had no idea...

Yeah...on the shortie it makes it hard to remove the gas piston and tube as well. I filed mine off as it serves no purpose...

Huh? 'splain please.

OK...remove the flashider. It has three 'keyways', sort of like the letter "Y", that fix it to the barrel.
You can change the position of the FH so the bayo-mount is on the upper site of the "Y', 120 degrees out of synch.
Of course, now the sight dovetail is in also 120 degrees out so you must use a "Navy" style gas-lock sight as your front sight.
This is of course, just an exercise to show that you can mount a bayonet to your shorty,
but you probably won't want to do this unless you are an extreme bayonet fan!!! ;-)
