I would like to lower the front post of my Magpul BUIS as I have reversed the forend on my Alpharms 15SA and the front BUIS is now higher than the rear BUIS.

I need to know if I can disassemble the front sight so that I can remove the post sight and file it down in a vise.

I assume that I just unscrew the post with the Magpul post wrench but would like to know if there are springs in place that are going to fly into orbit when I do this.

Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

If the Magpul BUIS is like most other AR front sights (and from the picture it looks like it is) it will have a hollow base detent pin with a spring inside it. However, the spring is not under a lot of tension and if you carefully unscrew the sight post with a proper sight tool when it is fully unscrewed keep a little pressure on it and the detent and spring will not fly out.
