I can't find any info on how to disassemble a Winchester Model 64 carbine with a 3/4 magazine. The front of the magazine is held in place by a hoop which is dovetailed into the barrel. A pin runs through the base of "hoop". I removed this pin but to no effect. The magazine tube won't move. The magazine cap is slotted which gives the impression the whole mag can be turned. Haven't tried that yet without knowing which direction (counter-clockwise to unscrew as one might expect or clockwise to turn out of a slot. Really don't know what I'm dealing with and can't find a blow-up that shows the parts. Anyone out there have any experience with one of these?

I have a pre-64 model 94 and it takes down quite differently. The magazine tube simply slides out one you remove the end cap screw. The model 64 doesn't have an end cap screw. I imagine that it would be similar to a half or 3/4 mag model 94 but I've never disassembled one of them either.

The forend iron has a cross screw in it. The barrel/mag hanger has a pin in it. Each of these have to be removed.
Each one is circled in yellow.

I'm going from memory here, and I may be mistaken, but the loop that holds the magazine to the barrel. Looks as if it is dovetailed to the barrel. IIRC, it isn't. It is a twist/lock installation. Don't just hammer it out sideways.

Thanks guys. Had removed the screws and pins that gunrunner1oo had so nicely pictured. When he posted the pictures I thought "I must have it right" and got a little more daring, gently clamped the magazine tube in the (leather covered) vice and turned. It was a little seized in the mag hanger but once it moved it slid right out. One slight correction to gunrunner's description - the forend cap doesn't have a through-screw. It has two screws - one short one one each side which screw into a block dove-tailed into the barrel. Anyhow - the forestock is off now and "brewing" in a bottle of methyl hydrate to leach out the oil. Promises to be a pretty good looking rig when I get it all put together.

Thanks again for the help and suggestions.
