I have been searching in stores and online for 17 WSM ammunition to feed my Savage B-Mag. My local Canadian Tire used to carry it, but nothing for a while. I asked my LGS but was told they can't get any and they had no idea if/when it would be available again. My buddy bought a 17 WSM firearm many years ago and he said that the Winchester was the most accurate in his. The only ammo I have ever found was made by Hornady although an internet search tells me Winchester, Federal, and Hornady all made (make?) ammunition in this caliber. Even US stores (that have an online presence) appear to be out-of-stock or don't sell 17 WSM anymore.

A few years ago, I read rumours about the 17 HM2 (17 Mach 2) being discontinued. That rumour turned out not to be true, as a quick search of site sponsors (and even Canadian Tire) shows many places still sell the 17 HM2 cartridge and it appears that CCI and Hornady still manufacture it (as a side note, does Hornady actually make their own ammo, or it is rebranded CCI/Winchester/Federal?)

So, whether the 17 WSM is truly discontinued (or just temporarily impossible to find), I was wondering what other "modern" cartridge is obsolete/discontinued? Not sure what my own definition of "modern" is (say 50 years? 25 years?) but the 5mm Remington Magnum and the 22 WRF (the precursor to the 22 WMR) were both (to my knowledge) discontinued but brought back for limited runs (Aguila sometimes makes 5mm Remington Mag and Winchester makes 22 WRF still...)

Thoughts?

Cheers!

When you find it you have to buy enough to last a year. Second hand market is the only way I have been feeding mine. Stop into those mom and pop rural gun stores as well.

7mmWSM is pretty much dead, isnt it? Same with the WSSMs. Dont hear much of the RUMs and SAUMs these days either. Or the STWs either

Seems that most of those magnums developed in the early 2000s are pretty well dead.

Ammo manufacturer cannot cope with demand for popular caliber.
Odd ball, low sale ammo is not a priority. At the same time, they try to introduce new calibers..go figure..
