Discreet rifle cases

I saw a website where a gentlemen turned a guitar flight case into a custom discreet case for his M1 Garand. It makes for interesting and unassuming storage, but not exactly practical if you have multiple rifles to transport. I'll see if I can find the website when I get home from work.

Yeah, I'd say that a guitar case is as discreet as it gets, especially if you have to transport firearms on public transit or if you live in an apartment building or something.

This is why I love me my takedown rifles, so many transport options.

That said, I do have a Bulldog Hybrid, clamshell design with rigid plastic panels in the side to give it some body and avoid outlines, but it really only works for takedown rifles. Plus I wouldn't really call it high quality, I had to tear it apart and restitch it to get it the way I want.

I have a Hazard 4 Evac Takedown sling bag, that is fabulous, but again only really works for takedown and not all the zippers lock.

Buy a golf travel bag on special and put your hard cases in. Like that when people ask you where you are going, you tell them to the range ;)

Someone before argued that a gun in a guitar case or anything other than a gun case is disguised, therefore it's a concealed weapon. Is that true?

I would think that would be a stretch, but I wouldn't be surprised with the nanny state our world is becoming. Although the website I was looking at was American (he had two lovely Colt 1911's on either side of the M1), I would think it would be okay to transport a non-restricted rifle in such a fashion as it should meet all the regulations.

The Ruger 10/22 takedown comes with a backpack style case. I haven't seen one other than on the internet but doesn't look like a traditional gun bag/case.

Also, I took a hard black office briefcase that my dad used in the 80s, tore out the insides and add grey eggcrate foam to carry my pistols to the range. The locks are weak but they work. I do get some interesting looks when I open it on the range. Hope it's not illegal but I would expect most LEOs would give me a hard time about it.

Blackhawk makes some pretty cool ones, called diversion bags. Look like tennis racquet bags or they make backpack styles also!

It comes down to intent. If you have a gun in a guitar case, because as many people have found they work great, are readily available, and are typically affordable, that is not a crime.

If you have a gun in a guitar case because you don't want anyone to know you have a gun, then you are concealing it and that is illegal.

The issue of "carrying" and "transporting" is being confused here.

If you are " carrying" a LEGAL sawed off shotgun down the street hidden under your full length "oilskin" raincoat, and its not raining, and you're loitering having "having a smoke" outside a bank ... yes I suspect you would "come to the attention of" the local LEO!!!

BUT! Much better to have it in a bag slung over the shoulder or wrapped in a black plastic garbage bag than to have the naked gun (even with a trigger lock attached) slung over your shoulder!

However the TRANSPORT OF NON RESTRICTED is a different situation. I have a mini van - no trunk and back seats removed. While the vehicle is "attended" the only requirement is they must be unloaded. When the vehicle is left UNATTENDED NON RESTRICTED firearms must be locked in a "trunk" or a " similar lockable compartment" in this case the entire LOCKED min-van compartment BUT with the caveat that one shall " put firearms and firearm containers out of sight inside the vehicle and lock the vehicle." In this case I WOULD cover my long guns with that full length "oilskin raincoat" not in an attempt to "conceal" but to avoid the "temptation" of a "break and enter" similar to the situation of "concealing" cameras, binocs, computers, cell phones and iPads in vehicles even if the vehicle IS LOCKED!

The old saying "there's not a problem, unless there IS A PROBLEM, THEN! THERE IS A PROBLEM. As always a little "common sense" will generally avoid nasty outcomes!

Rampart International (a sight sponsor) sells SERT cases. They also have flat rate shipping. I really like mine

I think if you carry it in a case meant to spare yourself and others the drama of transporting a firearm to the range or hunt camp it should be fine. But if doing this was in conjunction to doing something illegal, then is becomes an offense. But proving one or the other may be an issue given the high handed tendencies of authorities.

What's the difference between a big rectangular rifle bag and a big rectangular rifle bag with a big Yamaha or Roland sticker on it? Keyboard are a big rectangle too.
I do archery and use my archery bow bag when I go to the range. Works but it gets heavy when I have rifles and a bow in there.
We shouldn't have to feel awkward about carrying around guns but I rent and simply don't want to answer any questions.
