Dispatching squirrels (need to send them to their maker)

Those high velocity airguns are loud though eh? I read a review and the guy said it's as loud as a .22.

The typical places where people want to thin out the squirrels tend to be places where you don't want to make a lot of noise.

You know, one guy said he zip tied a rat trap to a tree and put peanut butter in it. He said it worked very well.

Do yourself a favour and buy a Gamo pellet rifle. They shoot about 1200 ft/sec and will give you an accurate shot time after time. I have one for the kids and with any pellet it will finish a small furry beast.

Those cheap 500 ft/sec and under will be good just to possibly hurt but don't do a good job finishing the job.

I have those greasy,noisy,chattering little bastards in my backyard ,and find my Crossman Phantom .22 cal ,topped with a Burris red dot and shooting Predator Polymags.

The rifle is in the 450-490 fps range ,most likely in the lower limit ,and does them varmints with one shot to the chops or upper body.

The gun is very accurate ,and topped with the red/green/blue dot makes them easy to target within 40-50 feet.

I believe the OP lives in the city ,so anything above the old 500 fps or use of .22 cal rimless rifles is going to be out of the question.

As far as them "reds" being fur bearing......tough cheese !!!

May do a couple today as a matter of fact !

Get a few tin cans and shoot at the bottom. Use the pellets that make the deepest dent.
Go for a clean kill.

If it is only making a "dent" it is time for a new pellet gun... the pellets should blow right through a couple cans... I personal would not shoot a squirrel with a "pellet denting" combo...

Use a gamo rifle. Shoot from in the house with a little cd music in the background. Crows go down and don't know why.
Yard goes quiet after a while.

Unless you utilize the 3-S rule, which is illegal and therefore a criminal offence to counsel.
A city tree rat is no different than a tree rat in the bush. Still a game animal with a defined hunting season and you will be discharging a firearm within City limits. That is illegal. By all means call the police and tell 'em though. I'm sure they'll be right there.

I've trapped one already. No license needed. These are city squirrels - pests in other words. But there are more now, they've wised up to the trap. Don't want them wintering in my attic.

My buddy trapped and taught them swimming lessons last fall and had over 20 candidates in 2 weeks.
The season is upon him again and last month had 15 and there are more to learn to swim via the live trap.
Place the trap on the fence line , you will be kept busy... that I guarantee.

Indeed ,I`ve given swimming lessons to a few.I must totally agree ,rat traps and peanut butter or whole Cashews do the job nicely.

Squirrels are very slow learners and rarely survive the first lesson. It's not the swimming they need to master but finding out a way to extricate themselves from the trap once it accidentally falls into the river. Oh well, there's more where they came from.

Saw another video where some fellow and his son were shooting greys with .22 rimfire tracers !!!!

That was different to say the least.Talk about PETA getting their panties in a knot if they ever see that one.

I think propping the head of the one I trapped on a the front fence post did the trick. Other squirrels are keeping their distance. Postie is much more respectable. No more problem with flyers blowing in the yard.

Funny no kids came trick or treating on Halloween though.

I actually ate one of the greasy devils one time ,just to see what all the fuss was about from them good `ole boys down South.

Was pretty good really ,a little stringy ,but I BBQd the damn thing ,so may have been my culinary technique ?Not much meat on those little rascals ,they`re all head and tail LOL

Very very soon ,It`ll be cotton tail season in the back yard ,plenty of those varmints too ,eat all my shrubs and stuff.I bait them with sunflower seeds ,then wait and red dot them with the old .22 Crossman ,works eveytime.

If you trap reds... I'll take them from you throw them in a bag, let me know when to pick it up.... Might as well salvage some of what you're killing. I'm licenced.

As mentioned they are considered a fur bearer and although not worth much their pelt is worth something. Harassing game in the city is not legal but you can protect your property from damage so it's ok in that case.

I've done a bunch of skunk and racoon work this year, they're overrunning the city and the city is not providing free traps anymore.

them little buggers are TOUGH. We, usually leave them alone.... At my dad's, he had some getting into his enclosed summer/sun room, with nuilt in BBQ, they were getting into the bbq, no matter how he closed it up. He bought a break open pellet gun, and he shot one of them little buggers, over and over before it was dispatched. Tough!

Well, at my house, I have many of them on the yard, and I leave them alone, for the most part. The only time I have to deal with them is in the fall, when they try and get into the soffit, looking for a warm place to "winter"... instead of using a break open, and torturing them with shot after shot, I bought a Umarex Steel Storm full auto bb gun. It uses two 12g Co2 cartridges at a time, and shoots 6 shot bursts. This thing will take them down with one squeeze of the trigger from around 50 feet or so! Brrraap. done.... I put an airsoft Mp5 retractable stock on mine, and a tasco red dot sight. Its a great little toy. Im going to fit a longer barrel on it this winter, which will bring the velocity up over 600 fps, (im told). Then it will really rock them. But, like i said, they only get it when they are looking for it... ;-)

For that rifle I would try to find a pointed pellet that was accurate, start with Crosman then try RWS and then H&N or Stoeger. Probably stay away from Daisy they are notoriously bad.
