disposing of unsafe ammo

ok long story short i got givin alot of 12ga from somone who gave up hunting a while ago. around 1000 rounds. well some of what i got is super old. maby 200rounds. 3'' mag with 1 7/8oz. needless to say its some powerful stuff. i have been shooting it and finding that some got damp and the barly get the wad out the barrel when fired. then i had one that cracked on my today. split the brass. i looked in the bucket at some of the other spent shells. the base rim had broke off almost.

i have desided my face would like to stay the way it is.

how do i get rid of 200 +/- live 12gauge
 
I'd break it for salvage 200 rds of magnum would yield over 20 pounds of shot.
Roll the shell with a utility knife, cut the shell in half just above the brass.
 
Or give them to someone who loads, they can cut the shells in half and recycle the lead shot or steel. Old powder can be burned or quickly composted to dirt or fertilizer. Primers can be soaked in oil for safe disposal.
 
You local police bomb squad should be able to take them off your hands. You're not the only person with the problem. Cutting them open and salvaging the shot is a good idea, if you have the time.
 
Set them up down range with the primers pointing towards you, shoot them with a .22 or even a pellet gun, when you get a bullseye they explode-good times. :)
 
i guess i could take them apeart. i am getting into reloading shotshell. failing that ill take it to the cop shop or a gunclub.
