I have about 1200 unused primers that are about 15 years old.
I would like to dispose of them safely.
Does anyone have suggestions on how to properly dispose of them?

Unless they have been stored poorly, they should be fine.

If they have been left in wildly variable humidity, well....

If they were small pistol primers, I'd maybe use them for practice ammo.

A few years ago I was given 5k of Federal Small Pistol primers in packaging so old they must have been 25 years old or more.
Every one lit off first time.

I have some RWS primers which are over fifty years old.
Because RWS are such good primers I use some, from time to time, for some kind of special event ammo that I want to be the best!

If you load, use them up there is nothing wrong with 15 or 20 or even 30 year old primers, if you don't load advertize them or give them to someone who can use them.......you don't live in the Yukon or northern BC by any chance?

The correct way to properly dispose of primers is as such:

- Insert into the head of compatible brass case.
- Charge brass case with correct load of smokeless powder for the caliber/application.
- Seat correct bullet for caliber/application into brass case at correct OAL.
- At an appropriate location, load into firearm using applicable method.
- Minding proper firearm safety, discharge firearm.
- Repeat.

Sorry, couldn't help it.

In all seriousness, unless there is an obvious reason they should not be used, like they are heavily corroded. Just use them.
If you're not sure, load a couple tests round using data that is tried tested and true to you, and fire them in maybe, not your best gun.

If they work fine, you'd saved yourself a pretty penny in reloading supplies. OR . . . you're probably already getting PM's.

They are yours to do with whatever you wish but as has been pointed out, unless they have been stored improperly and are obviously no good, they should work just fine.I'm using up CCI small rifle primers that I purchased in the early 80's in 25-20 handloads for my wife's old Husqvarna single shot and they are working just fine,no misfires or other issues to speak of.In fact some of the powder is the same vintage as well.

"...how to properly dispose of them?..." Trade 'em, sell 'em or use 'em. Primers aren't like gun powders that can deteriorate.
