Dispute over SMD-12 classification

I applaud Dlask Arms Corp for their hard work and the willingness to bring out new ideas.

I am also proud to be part of the group that jumped on board to support this developement...

I am equally disgusted by those nay sayers that have worked or spouted off against this awesome firearm...

I want to personally thank Joe & ponts for their hard work as well...

Keep it up guys we need people like you...

Did you know that this is an internal RCMP squable where two very high ranking members in the RCMP/CFC are squaring off taking sides?

Probably the same issue with my S&W 460...which seems to be turning around after an effective letter to Stockwell Day.:D Do you have names of these police bureaucrats?

Did you also know that the CFC and RCMP received many calls originating from members here on this very site asking for the 8.5" 870 to be PROHIBITED!!?

If this is true, it is a shame that we will never find out who they are. A swift ####ing kick to the nads for each of them!:kickInTheNuts:

THE FOLLOWING IS MY PERSONAL OPINION AND DOES NOT REFLECT ON CGN, ITS MEMBERS OR THE MANAGEMENT.....

We definitely have the right to feel cheated by this latest action. Dlask has every right to be fuming since they worked 8 or 9 months to get the favorable ruling from the CFC, just to have it challenged this month, apparently by others within the RCMP. Their actions (and several others recently) IMHO are not done with good intention or good-will toward the firearm community, it doesn't make me feel at all that they actually care about our interests.

Hats off to Dlask for trying to do right by us with the gun and buttstock exchanges. Hopefully the RCMP/CFC won't start treating all of the 8.5" 870 shotguns as Restricted (even those wearing full stocks) but we will have to wait and see.

The people who bought these guns are law abiding citizens, the majority who will use these for animal protection and I am dissapointed, disheartened and disgusted that they are now trying to take away another tool that I have to protect myself and my family from dangerous animals.

I think we need to start writing letters on this subject. Hopefully Dlask will keep us updated with information so we can get our facts right and present in a professional manner.

Cheers

I would still get one... DLASK is good people and they've even stated that they can have a stock put on in their place to remain Non-Restricted in the worst case situation (they are made restricted or prohibited).

As it is now, they (the 870's) remain Non-Restricted.

I too am shocked though that there are people from here calling into the CFC and asking that they be prohibited; it's the rat mentality, someone see's someone doing good (being successful) and can't stand it so they try to sabotage them out of spite.

This makes me want to get one more now; I will be selling my 12.5" Shotgun in a week or two to finance a DLASK 8.5" :D

~Cheers~~

Sigh...

How on earth can this really be an issue for the good citizens of Canada to worry about? Its a little shogun that shoots about 15m for crying out loud.

And for those who pissed and moaned about this firearm's status until the feds acted on it... WHY!?!?!?!

Who's the contact at the CFC to call and whine about this? If squeaky wheels got this mess rolling, maybe we can shut it down.

I'm just gonna call the CFC tommorrow anyway.

I knew this wouldn't last very long. I laughed at all the flamers saying not to question it status. HOWEVER, I would still have no problem buying one. Hell, up the price a bit to cover the legal costs and I will still buy one. I sent an email two weeks ago and never received a response. I would send another one, but I assume they are now swamped dealing with exchanges.

I would like to know where ponts got that information. I find it hard to believe someone at the CFC is going around flapping their jaw to joe blow about their incoming calls. Sounds like hearsay/rumour/excuses.

Things look a lot more complicated when you have the inside scoop ;)

I just wrote my MP about this.

I didnt know what else to do...

The CFC is closed...

My poor MP...

On a seperate note...

I really feel a bit of despair sometimes over the way people, especially some CGNers react to good things that come along. Alot of people were on here arguing that the gun was not "non-restricted" when it really was. Now it seems to me that the RCMP saw all that belly aching and took it as grounds to act upon.

Alot of people are mutually supportive around here. They really are. But there are certainly some people that do not have the best interests of Canada's firearms community at heart.

So now that I have surely pissed off someone. Please, just take a minute and think about it. What if it was you?

I believe that the recent rash of issues coming from the RCMP/CFC such as the reclassifications and the changes to ATTs are the mainly East Coast, Liberal appointed firearms bureaucracy digging in their heels against the Conservative government. If and when they get a majority, the Cons can write a new firearms act and replace all these gun hating Liberals that infest and control the bureaucracy.

2 QUESTIONS

1) why would joe not tell us what is going and he leaves it up to pont's who as far as I can see is not on the nice person list as far as most of his posts on this board ?

2) did joe authorize ponts to distribute such information, so far as rumours and conjecture sure will not look good for an ongoing court case.... all his comments can do is inflame the issue and make a legal defence that much harder.

in the future I suggest holding your cards closer to your chest....

I got one knowing there was risk. The risk is worth it IMO especially if it's finally ruled Non restricted, as it will open up many more doors for us. I consider my purchase as a contribution to the cause. I also thank DLask for doing/trying this, and supporting their customers with whatever the outcome.

Exactly! :shotgun:

At least now that there are a bunch of use who have them, there are that many more of us who will fight this crap that might not have fought something like this before.

C'mon guys, lets give them what for! : )

Write letters, type emails. call the CFC. Lets at least not go down without putting up a fight.

Dlask. If you need help with anything, you know you can PM or email me!

???

I just received my Dlask shotgun, and had an idea this might happen, when i bought it from Dlask i asked for the paperwork and letter stating its status, i also asked for a few other things, i received the gun, no paperwork or letter and it took 10 days to get it after asking to pay for express post, now i know they must be busy but they didnt get any part of my order right, i called, emailed etc and no return call or email, i got nervous and sold it PDQ here on the board. Glad its gone, good luck to all, and im enjoying my unrestricted persuader thanks

How did you figure Joe delegates PR authority to ponts?

That's a possible strategy.
But I think we (as gun-owners) were nice guys for too long. We kept our nose in the ground for too long.
It's time now (in a situation like this) to put the cards on the table.
If there's any government (especially RCMP) dirty lingerie, it should be exposed.

As for ponts not being anice person, I don't know about that, since I don't know him. But his posts are outstanding.
