I'm in the process of "building" another AR. I've decided to go with a mid length 16" dissipator rifle. I like the distance between the sights and the full handguards. I don't care for the 16" carbine's long skinny barrel.
I've sourced a lower from Blue Line and getting some parts from Arms East.
The question is who has the barrel assembly?

I've been thinking the same thing. I see that CMMG is making one with a full rifle length gas system. I can't find much for info on the net regarding that gas length on a 16" barrel. Alot of people that have never shot, let alone owned one, saying that it doesn't work. Dissipator is a dated concept, but I still like it. Dlask is spinning out custom barrels for a decent price, I'd give them a call.

.

I really like the Dissipater concept, with the shorter barrel and rifle length sights.

When I end up finally building an AR, it will probably be a Dissy build :D

The problem is getting the right barrel profile for a dissipater, since the gas block diameter may not be the same as the front of the barrel where you WANT to install the front sight block.

You MAY need to go with an heavy barrel and have it profiled down to what you need it to be. Personally i would go with a heavy barrel and have it fluted.

Go for a midlength gas system. Gentler than a carbine length if you are going to have the long barrel anyway.

Cut off a 20" HBAR? Lots of them around.

Headspace an AR? Why wouldn't a new bolt and barrel made to spec work if torqued on right? Are you making them from a blank?

1st we are making the barrels from blanks, and 2nd we prefer to do things the right way. To make a match type barrel and then not match the bolt to the barrel and barrel extension can result in excessive headspace, which kinda defeats the idea of making a matchgrade barrel.
You may be able to mix and match bolts without issue if "spray and pray" type accuracy is good enough, but we feel that a match barrel that costs significantly more than a milspec run of the mill barrel should be given a properly fitted bolt in order to attain all the potential accuracy possible.

For a more detailed explanation some searching on AR15.com will give you the full detailed version put up by a well known barrel manufacturer, but here is an excerpt.

Upper Receiver
When ordering a new upper, remember to order a NEW bolt. Purchasing an upper without a new, matching bolt is a big mistake…you should have one matching bolt for each receiver…no exceptions.
As the bolt wears in to match the chamber in which it is being used, it will no longer headspace exactly to another rifle’s chamber. This bolt may be usable for a time but it will eventually wear in a manner that will allow excessive headspace in another receiver…particularly if you shoot often. Spend money on a new bolt.

I'm sold on that point. I picked up some bad carrier swapping habits from the military. The only thing i ever headspaced is a .50 M2 (HMG) and a "G,pig"(c5). I'm slowly getting my parts together. Thanks for your input.

I've been thinking about building a "Dissy" like this one for awhile. I've got a box of parts and pieces that needs to be built into something. Just need to get a barrel made.....a mid-length I think. :)

Nice. I like it...what is that thing under the handguards? The barrel is definitely the hard part. I have the lower half together already.
