I think it depends on what you are hunting.... Deer?
If it is, you could get a real sweet m14 variant for less than an XCR. It's worth considering. Also the FAMAE in 308 that should be considered... also in the price range.
With a 308, you can go after moose, elk etc, if that's your bag.
I'm just kinda thinking that for XCR cash, you got more hunting options with a 308.
Having said all that, I can think of no finer modern 7.62x39 than the XCR that is not restricted.
I've yet to see a Mini-30 that could shoot better groups than an SKS in good shape, and the mini-30 costs 5 times as much.
If you want better accuracy out of x39, consider either a Zastava or CZ bolt action carbine. Either one will be a great shooter, and shave a couple or three pounds off the carry weight.
