It does get hot enough to melt lead. Just 110v.
Still need to make my big gas fired wheel weight melting pot to melt dirty ww lead into nice and clean ingots so that's why I only melted my pewter items.

Those were trophies you didn't really care about either ....

I was wondering about bending the coils too, but you answered that already. Somethings we've always been taught to leave alone - you obviously never heard that lesson!

This works good. I have one similar I use for a Lee lead pot and and one for my BBQ temperature control. Extremely simple to wire up. Only need to get a thermocouple with a longer probe and a heat sink for the SSR. I think the total set up including a heat sink and longer thermocouple was under $30
