If you wanted the look but to play it safe get one of those fake suppressors that are are actually a linear comp, then bore a hole in the filter the same size as the OD of the comp, then JB weld the comp into it... this way the approved component is what interfaces with the muzzle blast, and the filter is just for looks as an outer skin...

This may still get you looked at, but so could a barrel shroud.

There's a member who makes them here on cgn. Basically a solid tube with just enough room for the round to pass through. No sound change thus legal.

A fake pop bottle silencer would be great, just epoxy a PVC tube down the middle so it doesn't muffle or stop the sound of a firearm. And write "LEGAL" on it in crayon, in case Ian Runkle sees you.
