DIY gun enhancing

Hi,

For having seen 1911 norinco's, i can say that the finish is a little neglected.

Just wonder if there is any simple way to enhance the finish at home by buying special kits or with simple tools.

I did the frame of my speedbike all by hand with 2000 grit sandpaper with water and the result is pretty good, but it's aluminium, not steel, so i don't really know how it would look like on a norc.

Did somebody tried something like this before? Any decent bluieing kits available for handguns? Any other comments or techniques for enhancing the gun appearance?

My buddy parked his nork a dark grey, came out really nice, did it himself in the backyard with one of those kits you have to boil it in the solution (I think ?).
