I was wondering if anyone has done this or has any idea if it would work it not. I have a chunk of rail from an old SR-22 I had, and I want to attach it to the top of the handguard (Norinco fiberglass). The rail is curved on the bottom and sits flush with the handguard and has 4 holes to put a screw or bolt through. I was thinking of taking the handguard off, drill and tap a people of metal, bend it to the inside curve and cinch the rail on. I am mostly looking to add a red dot, but do not want the added weight of a full handguard rail combo.

Has anyone done this or seen this done?

If you are thinking of doing what I think you are thinking of doing, you might rivet it on,
but I don't think any of these ideas will hold zero. Kind of a low-buck scout-mount.

Yeah your zero is going to wander like crazy from shot to shot, the hand guard is designed to have some back and forth and side to side play in it.

I tig welded a steel rail to the end of an arms 18 mount and at the other end , it's bolted to a custom one off oprod guide :D
Attaching the rail to a fiberglass handguard is probably a road to frustrating results.
