Well, I got my paws on a Vltor MUR 1A upper the other day and I happened to have a Wilson Combat dust cover kicking around so I figured I'd use it on this upper build. That's when I discovered that the ejection port cover pin is installed reversed on the Vltor MUR uppers.

I did some google searching and all the websites tell you to remove the FA (Forward Assist) assembly by knocking out the roll pin holding it to the receiver. Seems like a lot of work for what should be a simple task, right?

Here's another option that doesn't require you to remove the FA assembly on your MUR upper and should take just a few minutes.

Tools needed:
- dental pick with a nice sharp tip
- a small pin punch roughly 1/16" to 3/32" (preferably magnetized)
- safety glasses

Step 1.
Flip the receiver upside down and follow the ejection port cover pin towards the FA assembly. You should be able to see the pin clip that is securing the ejection port cover assembly. Using the dental pick, carefully pry the pin clip up/off. Be careful not to let the pick slip or you could end up with a nice gouge on your receiver's finish.

You may wish to work over a towel on an uncluttered work surface just in case the pin clip goes flying. If the clip falls into the FA assembly, don't worry, it can be retrieved after the ejection port cover and pin are removed.

Step 2.
With the pin clip removed, use the dental pick to help push the pin out using the groove in the pin as an aid. Grasp the open end of the pin and remove it.

Step 3.
Apply a very light film of lube on the cover pin. Reassemble using the new ejection port cover and spring with the cover pin's grooved end towards the FA. Insert the cover pin so that the groove is within the tiny gap just before the FA assembly.

Step 4.
Carefully replace the pin clip on the groove of the cover pin. This is where a magnetized pin punch helps. Push down firmly on the pin clip so that it "clicks" into place.

Step 5.
Assemble your upper and go shoot it!
