by do it yourself i mean, book directly rather than going though a booking agent.

anybody gone this route? not just to argentina, but anywhere?

most of the red stag hunts listed on the 'net seem to be priced around US$6000, which i suspect means that the price is really 6000 pesos which is roughly C$2400.

so i am thinking that going without someone holding my hand would be about 1/3 the price. of course i have no confirmation of this, just a hunch.

from what i have found on the 'net, importing a rifle into argentina is straightforward.

Better check closely on that ........most of the ones I know of ....booking direct or through an agent are quoted in US dollars. The best I have seen for red deer is about $4500 US. If you find one that is any good and is actually $6000 pesos let me know.

i am (half assed) looking.

there are lots of US$6000 elk hunts in canada and the US. i just find it difficult to believe that the price is the same in argentina. everything else is 40% of the cost of here, so why not the hunting?

i went fishing for dorado and surubi on the rio parana, the prices on the internet are in US$, when i actually contacted the various outfits, the prices were the same amount only in pesos. the internet would say US$500/day (give or take) but the actual outfits would say 500 pesos inclusive.

i have contacted the guy that i went fishing with. he said he will send me info on red stag. he did say they have year round dove shooting and that he guarantees 1500 shots a day, he never told me the cost and i didn't ask as it doesn't interest me.

I am strictly a big game guy when it comes to going elsewhere. I have all the upland birds and ducks and geese I'll ever want on my farm......doves don't interest me either.

It will be good if you can find a cheap stag hunt in pesos, but most of the outfitters in the world know what red deer hunts are going for elsewhere so price usually has more to do with what the market will bear than what it costs to run the hunt.

Most of the Argentina stag hunts are on the eastern slopes of the Andes. You know they have free range fallow deer, axis deer and blackbuck closer to Buenos Aires as well.:D

well, i haven't found a $2400 dollar hunt, but the prices i have been quoted are a little less than on the internet in general.

on the 'net:

daily rate US$350 = C$400
red stag fee US$2500 = C$2855
fallow/axis deer US$1200 = C$1370
black buck US$750 = C$856

what i have been quoted (converted from Euros):
daily rate C$275
red stag fee C$2500 (180-210 international points, whatever that means)
fallow/axis deer C$1355
black buck C$677

realistically, it looks like a guy could have the same sort of 'package hunt' for about the same amount as is advertised on the 'net, only in canadian instead of US dollars. so the savings would be the exchange rate.

or, 5 day w/ 1 red stag for a little under C$4000. add airfare and i think the only way it is really worthwhile (for myself) is as an add-on to a south american holiday.

or, if a guy was going there already, could hunt boar for $275/day plus $400 per boar.
