DIY wet tumbler question

Built mine. The hex tub is 3 gallons and all stainless. I also made an all round tub that holds 5 gallons. 1/4 hp motor.

How did you make the hex tub? That's interesting, just like the Thumler.

it might be a few bucks, but i'd suggest looking at this cement mixer from lee valley tools. is heavy plastic with internal baffles built in. sealed. oddjob cement mixer

You sir, are excellent.

I've been mucking around with some home jobbies on my modified treadmill (speed controllable!), however the drum has been somewhat problematic. I've had some good, but never perfect solutions.

This, is excellent, and I just bought the only one in Calgary.

For those looking, they are discontinued, so if your Lee Valley has one and you're thinking about it. Call now and buy quickly.

Anyone using a cement mixer with stainless pins ?? CT and PA have them on sale for 200 every so often. I have lots of room so the size doesn't matter.

Princess Auto has there cement mixer on sale this week in their flyer for $222.22 it has a 1/3 hp electric motor running it.

I got one thinking I was going to build a wet tumbler this time but will stay with my dry tumbler. it does what I need of it.

Got home and was excited to test, only to be a bit let down. Not huge issues and fixable like most home projects.

1) The gasket is nice, but it doesnt stay on lid. It'll need some removeable adhesive to stay where it should.
2) The big one. It's baffles aren't "long" enough to keep constant contact with rolling circumference. LIkely on purpose to make a solid hit to remove dry concrete off the baffles. I plan on applying a band of metal around the containter to cover these gaps.

2016 diy tumbler.

TUMBLER DIY WINTER PROJECT. I have been wanting to do one of these finally got around to it this winter. Costs, bearings from B.C. Bearing $12. each, motor, stepper motor from auction site, one is for sale $35. each motor required a capacitor $10. each, I bought two, the motors have reduction units on the drive end. Pulleys were $8. each. Add to that the cost of 5lbs of SS pins, shop around for these prices are all over the map on these. Anyway in answer to the question, would I buy a factory edition rather than build one NO I'm satisfied with what I now have, this one will allow me to use tumbler barrels all the way up to the 20L water jug if I choose. I have jugs of varying size and degree of aggressive tumbling, depending on what I'm tumbling, 2hrs does the trick. RPM of tumbler is about 50RPM

LOL did you use a Berger bullet box for a junction box??
Innovative thinking!

Yes the berger box is the junction box and contains the capacitor, it was on my bench and the right size. Both pulleys are 1.5" OD, ID .5". The motor is reversible if required. I have not been able to find the Lemi Shine, but the Dawn3X works very well.
Enjoy.
