Just ordered a 14" Remi 870 barrel from Dlask. Latest batch should be ready today or tomorrow. Could of sworn I heard the lathe working them up while I was on the phone.

Can hardly wait!

Cheers

Good to here they are doing that. Again idea if they have made changes to them so you don't have to hack away at your forend to make them fit?

Didn't ask, but I will let you know as soon as I get it. To be honest, I don't mind working the inside of the forend as long as the structural integrity isn't compromised, the damn barrel fits and works with the receiver and it isn't parked on the inside... You know, basic stuff.

$300. There's cheaper out there...but I'm looking for something that fits and works.

I wonder which other barrel you might be talking about! I wish I would have waited for Dlask's barrels and saved myself some frustration!

Dlask barrels are well made but heavy even compared to the already lunky police profile barrels.

Beween the unnecessary heft and their interfering with most unmodified forends, I'm not sure if I'd recommend them.

So which reasonably accessable, drop-in, working 14" 870 tube would you recommend?

The Dlask is as good as it gets, however after using one for a good length of time you may come to the conclusion that "entry" length barrels are more for specialized rather than general purpose use.

870P,

You make a very good point regarding weight. Let me clarify what it is I'm building. I want a pack gun thats reliable, stripped down with clean lines, and easy to draw from the scabbard. I don't want a 12" or shorter (my preferance) and I figure the Dlask 14" weighs 'about' the same as a standard 18". I think this may be a good compromise between easy of carrying, quick to the shoulder and 'half' decent barrel length. I have an 870 so thats the platform I have to work with. I want to see how this turns out. Let you know.

I'm not really looking for a barrel that is general purpose, rather I'm looking for a barrel with a specific purpose to complement my 28" tube and 20" rifled barrel. I see the 870 with multiple barrels as multi-purpose.

My 12.5" Dlask looks to be about 70% heavier in profile ahead of the chamber area compared to my already porky 18.5" Police barrel. I don't have a scale but it feels heavier in general carry and even when shouldered.

What I carry now is the factory 20" rifled barrel so that is what I really what to compare the weight of the Dlask 14" against. Also, the weight is only one variable of many that I want to look at.

The weight thing keeps on coming up and it seems a little silly to me. The 870 in general is not a light firearm whether its wearing a 12.5, 14, 18 or 30 inch barrel it is still fairly heavy. If weight is a real issue for guys wanting to carry a 870 while back packing or on long walks then maybe a switch to a lighter alloyed shotgun or an even lighter lever action is in order.

The Dlask barrel will be fine and I don't think you will notice any real world weight difference while packing it.

Cheers
