Dlask 14" 870 Barrels (Now with Pics Post #46)

The weight thing keeps on coming up and it seems a little silly to me. The 870 in general is not a light firearm whether its wearing a 12.5, 14, 18 or 30 inch barrel it is still fairly heavy. If weight is a real issue for guys wanting to carry a 870 while back packing or on long walks then maybe a switch to a lighter alloyed shotgun or an even lighter lever action is in order.

The Dlask barrel will be fine and I don't think you will notice any real world weight difference while packing it.

Cheers

I notice a difference in weight, or at least balance as a muzzle-heavy gun will fatigue you more quickly when carried at the ready. I also don't actually find my 12.5" barrel all that much handier than my 18.5" once you actually get into the bush.

I agree though that a lighter shotgun design would be better for the task.

I believe the OP is looking at carrying in a scarab so I don't think carrying at the ready will be an issue as far as muzzle weight is concerned.

I agree with you about the shorter not being any more handy, once its in your hands you really don't notice the difference.

On this topic, I am looking for 12.5" or a 14" 870 barrel that will allow standard remington chokes to be used. Must have a decent sight set up. This will be used for my wife for trap shooting. Light weight would be a bonus. Any suggestions?

How's that for hijacking a thread?

x2!! I see no difference when hunting with a 12.5 than my 18.5 remmy. The 12 is just so much more comfy in the bush hunting grouse!

He knows his archaeology and will carry the tent, but the training to carry the shotgun isn't going that well.

So quick question for you guys, a 14" will fit flush with a +1 right?

Is it better to get a 5 shot or 7 shot to make the 14?

I figure 5 shot needs: a +1 and a 14" barrel but you gotta take out the dimples?
7 shot needs: the same but shouldn't need to fix the dimples right?

Quick question for those of you with 14 inch barrels, do they hit the same point of aim as an 18 or 20 inch barrel? I'm just curious because I'm thinking of going from 20 inches to 14 inches for rifled slugs and I heard the 13 inch norinco guns are hitting high because the barrels are so short

My 12.5" Dlask looks to be about 70% heavier in profile ahead of the chamber area compared to my already porky 18.5" Police barrel. I don't have a scale but it feels heavier in general carry and even when shouldered.

I also have a DLASK 12.5, and it is heavier than a Rem 14. I will weigh them later. I had to relieve some material from my pump so it would fit, but not that much, really.

Its a heavy duty blade type sight, with very sharp leading edges that will slice your hand open if your not careful around it...at least mine is like that.

Yes, well your Dlask barrel sight may be capable of slicing a hand open, but do you have the evidence that it has ever done so? Seriously though, I can hardly wait to see how my fits and works.
