It looks dis-proportionate to me....but it still looks MEAN!

I was getting about 1250 fps with the (Federal IIRC) slugs that run about 1500fps out of a 20" barrel.
Here is some previous informal shotgun velocity test information to compare longer barrels:
Ammunition was 2 3/4" Federal Classic 1 oz. (Grey/Blue Box) Slugs.
Test Guns were 20" Mossberg 590, 16" Factory Remington 870, 14" DAC/870 Remington
Velocities:
20" : 1513 fps average
16" : 1413 fps average
14" : 1353 fps average
Velocity loss was 25-30 fps per inch of barrel lost.
More tests to come soon!

Great news! those are the kind of muzzle velocity reductions/inch I've been seeing in my .300WSM and it's great to find out the same rule appies to Shotguns. these losses are immaterial if youre looking at deer hunting at around 75 yards
will see if I can duplicate those results.

My hand hurts
Put a Speedfeed pistol grip on it.
While the Hogue Tamer nearly broke my hand, the Speedfeed has no felt recoil.
I love that forend with the vertical grip. Can you give me a rundown on how/where you changed it out?
The 'factory' rails on my forend are a literal pain when shooting and I would love to get rid of that strap.
I put a knoxx breacher grip on mine. 3" magnums are now possible to shoot without any pain. The cop stock works even better!

There are two several things I learned whren firing the pistol grip version which reduces the recoil considerably.
When firing the gun, push forward with the foregrip while pullling back with the rear ( pistol grip). make sure you have the safety strap around your hand! . this seems to spread the recoil along both arms and makes it quite manageable. to prevent binding you have to pull the strap flat along the side of the forend and keep it there by squeezing - pratice this a few times and you will eliminate the binding problem on ejection and reloading.
to get rid of the rail bite, I got rail cover/fillers ( the rubber/plastic type that fill the gaps between the rails from brownells. I saw thet Dave's surplus & tactical also carries these as do several others I'm sure.
The grip on my gun in my avatar is just a folding foregrip suitable for ARs etc. This gun is one of the early ones ands has a tiny foreend -around 2 inches -with rails on the bottoms and both sides. The later ones don't have a bottom rail but I imagine if you wanted a foregrip just screw in a rail section to the bottom of the grip. TSE sells one for the Fabarm which might fit with a judicious choice of fasteners I personally find the strap to be a really good idea for various reasons and don't intend changing it.
