Dlask FA BCG NiB

Got mine today.

To KENDO: The machining looks good? If you can see it...then it's not good.

My Review:

Lots of chatter on my bolt, Dull tools?
No chamfer on the Bolt lugs. Gas key looks obviously cast.
Machining marks everywhere on the carrier.
Ejector Roll pin to long...just kind of hacked off. Not counter sunk.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST!!! THE GAS TUBE WILL NOT GO INTO THE CARRIER

So , again. Back goes another defective product to DLASK.

edit: Yes the staking is half ass.

I have the same issues. Will not fit into any of my receivers either due to the gas tube. Will also be returning it.

That's nasty looking...in fairness, the phosphate one I got (little apples to oranges here) doesn't even come close to looking like that (I just checked) and no issue with the gas tube either...looks like you got the one before the tool changes...

Well, I'm going to say. I got my carrier in today, and headed straight to the range.
It looks like the pics, if you really want to point out the flaws.

It has some rough machining marks, in spots that don't seem to matter. Was smooth and perfect in places that do matter.
The Ejector roll pin on mine is rough like the picture, but I have not fixed it yet and I think a couple mins with a file will fix that.

Conclusions, so far, I installed it, it fit, cycled smooth, rifle ran 100%.

The staking does look a bit light, but I'm not going to touch it, will find out if it lets go, and monitor it regularly.
I didn't have any problems with the gas key/tube. I do lube the gas key. Maybe new tubes need break in. I dropped my BCG into an existing rifle.
I have 3 uppers to my name, and they have been sharing the same BCG between then for at long as I've been shooting AR's.

But sure, it's a bit ugly on the inside, but, my rifle ran 100%.

Thank you! There is now hope :)

My turn for show and tell. I was going to wait until I had talked to Ice Arms, but what the hell.

One of mine is OK (not perfect mind you. still a little rough). The other looked like the following:

To be honest I was a bit disappointed to see this, especially after the long wait.

They seem to lock into the barrel extension fine, but I don't have a gas tube on it yet so we'll see. Staking is weak as well, but I haven't touched it up yet.

I hate to say this but the spare DPMS BCG I have kicking around has smoother machining. I'm sure Ice Arms will get better at this, but it sucks to be the guinea pigs.

See this is what I'm talking about. The valleys between the lugs are ugly, yeah, but at look how smooth and immaculate the actual lug surfaces that matter.

I'm in the process of giving my BCG a good going over. I can't find any functional flaws with it as yet.
All the spots that matter seem to be fine.
After 100 rounds, not much I know, but I tried to tighten up the Gas Key bolts and they did not budge, which tells me that they haven't loosened at all.
As mentioned I plan to not touch the staking and monitor them for any movement.

Only complaints I have so far:

- Tried to fix the ejector roll pin, couldn't do much better a job as the material it's made of it a bit soft and gets peened from the insertion force. This explains why it looks like that in the first place. The good news is, it's not going anywhere, it does not interfere with the function, and you can consider it staked. Unless you are REALLY craft, like, fit parts to a 1911 crafty, I would not touch it. It'll just look the same when you're done with it. If you don't like, it replace it.

- The NiB coating seems to have stained. I've cleaned my BCG already, and it cleaned pretty easily, but it seems to have stained darker in the dirty areas. I call it staining, cause it will neither wipe nor brush off.

The gas tube issue seems to have reared it's ugly head on me.

It was fine with "Upper B" that I shot today, which uses an older gas tube that has seen many rounds.
After cleaning it, I installed it into "Upper A" and yeah, it was tight. This upper uses a much newer gas tube.

Not so tight that that I can't rack it out. And, using a dummy round, the bolt will seat properly into battery.

Observations. It's probably won't cause a functional problem . . . for me.
There should be more then enough gas pressure to drive the bolt back regardless, and there it more then enough forward motion to seat a round into battery. After a bit of shooting, it'll likely smooth out and actually have a more better seal then I'd usually have.

That being said, yeah, I could see, if you mated it with a brand brand new gas tube, and did not lube it, it could get jammed.
There might be some break in and fitting required for this aspect of the carrier.

Just fit tested it with an "Upper C" which has seen a lot of round, and as expected, it was a smooth fine fit with the gas tube.

Seems the gas tube thing is going to be a break in or fitting issue. Personally, with my experience, and the price I paid for it, it does not bother me.

The impression I'm getting now; Arm chair elitists are not going to be pleased with it's fit an finish, and the n00b AR builder is defiantly going to be thrown a curve ball, but otherwise, it seems to be a good high value option for the experienced AR Enthusiast.

Only time will tell for sure if it's any good or not, and from the looks of it, I'll be the first to know.

While I realize the chatter marks will likely not effect function, it is a pride in workmanship sort of thing.

How many rounds do you shoot a year? I'm looking forward to hearing an update when someone has a bunch of rounds on one of these bolts.

I love having a Canadian supplier of these. Hope I don't have any gas tube issues.

I'm sure there is, or, will be pride in the future, but right now, I think there was a rush to meet market demand. Probably due to need, as a company like Dlask couldn't get any BCG's for their builds, so, had to make their own. Considering what other name brand BCG's cost, I think they are priced accordingly given their flaws.

I shoot minimum 180 rounds a week. I've put over 4500 rounds thru' my AR since I got it in Sept '12. This BCG, will likely see 100 rounds a week.
I suppose many people shoot AR more then me, but I don't know any personally.

Nothing you shouldn't be able to work around. As mentioned, it's a fine smooth fit with broken in tubes, and only tight with my newest one.
Worst case scenario, you use some fine grip sandpaper to polish/fit the tube to your BCG.

How come alot of guys in the dlask thread are saying their BCGs (recieved on the 18th) are incredable? Yet every one on here says their crap?

The internet seems extremely useless these days for getting straight no BS advice or info and CGN seems to be leading the charge

my gas tube will not fit, I talked to richard and he hasnt heard of this issue with anyone, was told to call joe at dlask so we shall see, not impressed so far with ice arms products. I would advise others to hold off ordering yet
