I'm torn between building up a shorty AR-15 or buying one already assembled from Dlask. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
Same here... then I also ended up buying elsewhere. I'm sure his products are great but he seems iffy with communication.I was in the same place as you a couple of months ago. I inquired about the mini moose but never heard back from Dlask. I endend up picking up a vltor vis upper off the EE and I ordered all the parts for a N8 upper mnius the stripped upper from Arms East. I just received some more vltor parts that I imported myself and have a ATRS stripped lower on it's way also from the EE. It's been fun picking all the parts but I don't want to add it all up.

I should point out that the Dlask upper isn't light! I've not weighted it but it feels heavier than the 14.5" barreled AR i fired to give me the bug.
When I put on by piston upper it was a heavy bull barrel. At 10.5" it was noticibly heavier than my 16" Colt, suprisingly so. I've been considering some fluting or dimpling to knock the wieght down some.
Any chance that was the difference in yours perhaps?
I visited Josef and his shop last summer, they are small compared to other manufacturers out there. With one to two people available to answer phones (which are fairly busy) and reply to emails, it is amazing that they even keep up! They are doing a very good job for what would be expected from such a small operation. I got a tour of their shop, and it was along the lines of the same size as my highschool's metal-shop. Just outfitted with less machines (although nicer newer machines that appeared to be very expensive). As I recall they did sound, on the phone anyway, like they were always just a bit past overwhelmed. But they were polite and helpful. I don't believe I had much success in email contacts though.
I recall getting a bit frustrated as they didn't meet there quoted times for delivery... a couple of times... but the wait was worth it.
If you like to buy Canadian ATRS also makes fine AR's parts(uppers, lowers, barrels... I think)
Now that's justThe Bulwinkle is a great platform, but it's a bit more fun to do it yourself.
You can however get the parts from Dlask like a complete Moose upper and then put together the rest.
I went with the anniversary lower and a CMMG piston upper and couldn't be happier...

My favorite part is the 'Made in Canada' flag and Si Vis Pacem Para Bellumon one side and ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ under the Spartan on the other

If you enquire with Joseph he might be able to hook you up with a custom serial number as well like they did for mine.
I went with CN8IANAR but I was kicking around names like ZOMB1ECLB as well, but whatever floats your boat.
Called up ATR today and got the low down on prices for a shorty. The pricing wasn't too bad but I'm a few hundred dollars short so I'll have to get a paper route or something to supplement the purchaseOr I could go the cheaper route and get the Mini Moose, I guess it will be determined by my anticipation for this new addition to my collection.
Less expensive is often not cheaper
More expensive is often not better...
That I understandThe ATR "Special Shorty" has everything I'm looking for and for me to add those things to a Mini Moose brings the price close to the "Special Shorty." Now, if you're saying Dlask craftsmanship is better than ATR, that would change the rules of the purchase.
