Do all hunting caliber under .275

25-06. 257 Bob? The quarter bores are great. Super flat and will take care of anything with shot placement and a proper bullet. If you don’t have either of those maybe stick to shooting paper.
I’m not sure why this overrated creedmore gets attention. Sure it has a cool name. It’s nothing special, just new so it makes people buy another rifle.

To answer Stroker's question, from a non reloaders point of view:
A while back I bought a beautiful model 70 crf in 25-06. I didn't research available factory loaded ammunition first. Big mistake. Selection of factory 25-06 ammo is minimal. Screwed myself a second time on a beautiful model 70 fwt in 7x57, same issue....Then I take in trade a nice remington in 257 Roberts. Sweet old rifle. Went to buy some factory ammo.... good luck. One choice available. Yes those are all fantastic cartridges, but if you don't reload they are not even worth having.
I recently bought a 6.5 Creedmoor, researched my factory ammunition selection first this time, and the selection is awsome. There ya go, that's reason enough for me to never again own those other cartridges and to prefer the overrated 6.5 Creedmoor.

That actually sounds like a good reason to start reloading, rather than giving up.

If you had bought a press and some dies, you would have had 3 nice rifles...:)

I think there’s enough sponsors on here where you can get enough factory ammo for anything. Well except for my 25 WSSM. Ya that’s and odd ball. I’ll never get rid of that one. Best little whitetail rifle ever. So found ammo and bought a bunch. 1-2 shots a year im good for a while.
SFRC, Tenda both have easily accessible ammo. Find what your rifle likes buy a bunch or reload. I’m real tired of the overrated creedmore. It’s a douche bag cartridge. Cause it’s “new” doesn’t mean it’s anything good. Sales tactic for people like Elkrusto

257 weatherby is another great choice. Weatherby mkV Beautiful rifles and extremely accurate. Or go punch paper with your creedmore

Completely TRUE ! RJ

What's your vote?

I'd like to have a rifle that can hunt almost anything in Canada, but most likely deer and varmint in the short/medium term with some target shooting <300y. I know 6.5 creedmoor gets a lot of votes but I'm definitely not an expert.

Apologies in advance if this has all been discussed before.

6.5 Creedmoor or better yet a 6.5 -284 Norma or a 6.5 PRC ! RJ

Try owning a .284 Win.

Ontario Courts rely on head stamp and rifle markings to establish size as it pertains to the FWCAct. If the rifle and head stamp of the cartridge read .270 or smaller,we're good to go. I'm partial to Rugers.

How is the CM overrated?

I own several chamberings that would be challenging to find factory ammo for here in NB including the 6CM, 257Rob, 275Rigby, 280Remington, Super 30 & 300H&H. For a non-reloader, the factory ammo that is available alone is huge advantage not to mention other advantages that the 6.5 CM has to offer.

Some marketer hype on that 6.8 Western? SAAMI drawing shows bullet is .278"-.003" - pretty much same as .270 Win, 6.8 Rem SPC and 270 WSM (nominally .277" bullets, but all showing .278"-.003" as bullet size). I notice cartridge naming seems to use bore size, groove size and "make believe" size at some times - like for 100 years - 275 Rigby versus 7 mm Mauser - 7 mm = .275591" - but use a .284"(7.2136 mm) diameter bullet. My 1926 Rem 30 barrel is stamped "30 Springfield" then "1906" but uses .308" diameter bullets.

Considering so many cartridge’s names have numbers that don’t actually pertain to their actual size, it’s a wonder they assign a number to new offerings at all. Just call it Beowulf, or legend, or Valkyrie or whatever. Why bother with the number.

When i started i could only afford one rifle to hunt ontario. I chose the 2506. Split the difference between the 243 and 270. I knew id reload but finding ammo has never been an issue. Ive taken everything ontario offers except moose and elk with my 2506. It just flat out kills. It maynot always be fur friendly and its light for moose but it will certainly work if you pick your shots. And under 300 yards it whoops the 6.5cm

how many different reloaded ammunitions are you guys using in yer magazine for the said "oddity" rifles... ???

the cost of said factory would sway the usage of that chambering...... an with a month long deer season, 40 rounds would be plenty id have thought.
