Absolutely!
55-80gr for coyote and 85-100 gr for Black Bear.

When it gets down to it wouldn't a Savage rifle/scattergun combo be legal for everything? i am sure that if hard pressed you could use it for any game in Ontario anywhere. I know you said rifle and indicated ownership of a shotgun but if i was allowed only one gun i would seriously think about the Savage. One gun.....

Something in a 6.5 mm x (54, 55, 57, 06 / .264 Win Mag. ) just to name a few. A 6.5 x 57 would be ideal in Ontario any where, IMHO. --- John303.

If you do not plan to reload, the 270 Win is your best choice. If you plan to reload, the 6.5x55 is perfect as you can get a good variety of bullet weights.

I agree,load 95gr. A Max for coyote, 130 accubond for deer and bears
and 160 grainers for moose

Just what I was thinking when I opened up this thread. And if you do your homework and look around, a decent 6.5x55 can be had at reasonable prices.

It should be mentioned that the moose in Scandinavian countries where the 6.5x55 is more popular are smaller than Canadian Moose, but I hardly think that's a show stopper for this round. Maybe later in the summer after I've glass bedded my Swede sporting rifle, installed the scope and tried my handloads I'll be able to pipe in again. The few times I've handled and shot a .270 were pleasant experiences as well....so either calibre is a decent choice at the very least.

Check with MNR......they seem to consider the .270 as allowable under the .275 rule. Land diameter vs bullet diameter. And the .270 would make a great all-rounder.

but 270WSM could be even better!

Grab a 270 and dont look back.
you already tolerate recoil with your shottie,so just start with light bullets and work up to 150's.
Factory ammo only makes a 270 the best choice IMO.
T.E.C. tradeex (sponsor, top of page) has a couple zastava m98's and husqvarna 1600's 270's right now. lot of gun for the $.
