As the title states, and yeah I can probably look it up, but good discussion...
scenario: I walk into my spot (along a hedge row, into the next field, and right over to my bait) and as I go, I'm sniffing, looking at the tracks/trails, and spraying the occasional twig with some scent. I walk out into the field in front of me (maybe a hundred yards to get the deer stink out there) and then go to my ground blind in the hedge row. I should mention, there's a mineral soil-beaten trail to my bait...

SO at sunset (not the end of legal shooting light) I hear this guy get out of his treestand (that I didn't know about), get on his quad, and pull out into the field behind me (maybe 250 yards away). He's in camo, and it looks like he's got a bow-case strapped on the back of the quad. Now, the spot where he pulled out from is the spot where I sniped my deer last year, and I have permission to hunt that field. So, fair enough, BUT if the wind had been opposite, I still would have been in the same ground blind, but with my shooting stix and BARREL facing his way. so, I didn't know he was there, and he had no reasonable way of letting me know. The guy slowly drove off without a word (likely because I was directly upwind of him), but must have had an interesting time watching me creep in... 8)

who was wrong, and what do we do?

I am going out tomorrow wiith my bow and will be in complete camo. I have exclusive access to my area and all of the locals know that I bow hunt. From my understanding of the regs for Sask, I can be in camo if bowhunting.......only. I also post a sign at the gate"Caution Bowhunter in area" this is a heads up. But anyone who enters my hunting area is trespassing..............I am the only one who is lawfully allowed to hunt this area...it's private and well posted. Lucky for me I know all of the hunters in the area and they know me.

I kindof meant my question sarcastically, but good point:
1) do they have to wear orange (are they required)?
2) would it kill a bowhunter's position (in a tree), to a deer to wear an orange hat?
3) how much influence do you think color has (there's a good article on the huntontario main page on this)?

good point on posting your presence... I'll find out who the guy is this week and stay away from where he's hunting when he's arround. Just need to know when he's there.

In Ontario it is required to wear orange while bow hunting in an area where there is an open gun season for deer, moose, bear if bear season I believe you only need to wear orange while going to your stand.

Wearing Orange while bowhunting pretty much defeats the purpose. However, orange camo is available and if the law requires that you wear it then that would be my choice. If you see this guy again simply point that out to him. I would aso remind him that Deer don't see in colour but in shades if Grey, Blue, Greens and Black and White. You can tell him another bowhunter told you that. Here in B.C. hunters Orange isn't required AT ALL..but we have Bow-Only areas and Seasons and I tend to stick those areas and seasons when I hunt with my bow. What I'd like to find is a really good Orange Camo in the same tupe of definition as the rest of the camo you'll find in Full Camo.

a riflehunter in camo has the same odds of being shot on accident as a bowhunter in camo

be sure of your target and dont point your rifle at anything you dont intend on killing

use your binouculars....

The law regarding Hunter Orange is just stupid... It has never been proven to increase safety in any way.
What good is Hunter Orange if you are wearing it inside a blind... which is legal... or 15 feet up a tree... don't need it for bear hunting or duck hunting... it is useful for the game wardens to spot you from the road.... The whole concept of Hunter Orange is retarded :!:

The camo pattern orange is not legal in Ontario, it must be solid orange. Its not the bright orange colur that will mess you up while bowhunting, its the fact that it is one solid block of colour.

+1

who the hell is gonna shoot at a deer like object 20 feet up a tree

in quebec, in gun season, EVERYONE has to wear orange.

i think its retarded too, i wish i could use a ghillie for hunting

Orange has never hindered us, I like the idea as there are a lot of people in the bush and I cannot be sure that all other hunters are making sure of what is behind their target, if they can see me better and we still get deer then I am for it. The problem is not the good hunters but rather the idiots who are in every group of society, I like to think we have very low numbers in comparison but I guess that has to do with your location.

Scar, have a look again, if the season you hunt in is a regular gun season not limited to shotguns and muzzleloaders then you can use bows, you say you are from Lanark so I am assuming WMU64, this does mean hunter orange though. We looked into this for moose hunting in 63A as well, we were looking into hunting with a bow for moose in Oct and with the overlap into the deer bow season you could take either or a bear for that matter but if you choose to go into the bush with a bow at that time you need orange.
