i have a 1943 union switch &signal "colt" that i feal is worn out it feals sloppy someone told me the frames and slides dont wearout

If you have a US&S 1911, you shouldn't be shooting it anyway!!!!! :)

It's one of only 55,000 made, and is the second rarest 1911 behind the Singer, if I'm not mistaken.

Post some pics - I'm sure someone on here will know it's value.

any pistol smith should be able to tighten up the frame and slide. guns are ment to be used. i'd say spend some money on tuning it up and have fun at the range with it.

Except if you try to do that with an old, tired gun, you could easily end up with a cracked frame and/or slide.

To answer the OP's question: the frame would likely never wear out, the slide would wear after a very large number of rounds (likely over 100,000), while the barrel and small parts need replacement on a more regular basis.

If it's an original US&S then please don't shoot it. They are a rare M1911 variant and should be preserved. Post pics for all to see!

i was gonna say if it cracks, have a gun smith to weld it back up and make the gun a safe queen.but then the refinishing would greatly devalue the gun so i just leaved it at that.i personally would shoot all my firearms til they break.that doesnt mean i dont take care of them, i just like to use them as much as i could so that piece of tool lives a full and purposeful life.

you should do one of two things preserve it and get a 1911 like a norc or some other more- you have a museum quality piece there , even if it is loose- or sell it and get something that you want to shoot with no trepidations- and sell it to a COLLECTOR -the us&s is the 2ND MOST COLLECTIBLE OF THE WW2 VARIATIONS , STARTING OFF WITH THE SINGER, AND THEN THE COLT AND THE REMMY-RAND( OR VICE VERSA- I'M NOT SURE OVER THE LAST 2)

Depends of course by what you mean my "feels sloppy"..... the WWII GI pistols were not made to overly tight tolerances as to enhance their reliability in the field to begin with. That said, yes, both a slide +/or frame can wear out or experience other failures [cracks] etc from prolonged use.

Us&s 1911a1

a friend gave it to me and some idioit cromed/nicheled it so i striped it down and am refinishing it the chrome was flaking

Geez, that's too bad..... Removing a nickel/chrome finish may also explain the excessive play in the fit between the slide & frame...... However, as long as all the parts are correct for a US&S mfg WWII USGI 1911A1, even refinished, it still has significant collector following.

Since Singer mfg 1911A1's are virtually unobtainable [I don't know of one in a collection anywhere in Canada] the Union Switch & Signal 1911A1 is probably the rarest of the WWII 1911A1's that is still attainable, even in Canada.

Finally fufilled my 25+ year quest for one late last year.....
