Do EOTech sights just die? (not battery related)

So, after 4 long weeks of getting a new job and planning a wedding, I finally get a chance to go out and play with my AR.
I unpack, load up and find my EOTech wont turn on.

I'm using a 551 (N batteries and night vision mode). I bought the sight used about a year ago, and it does look like it has taken some abuse (scratches and dents in the aluminum hood) but it's always worked great. Until today.

I turn it on- nothing. I crank up the brightness- nothing. Hit NV a bunch of times- nothing.
I figured I left it on last time, so I put in brand new batteries, try every thing again and still have nothing.

I fiddled around with it, switching the batteries several times and finally get it to come on, but it was flickering and dimming. At this point I thought I got my 2 pair of batteries mixed up and had the dead/dying ones in, so I set them aside and put the new ones in and it just stayed dead.

Has anyone ever had this happen? I thought sights like this were made to last a life time being used and abused, and it's been pretty babied since I got it.

Anything I can do to get it fixed? I hate to be out an expensive sight just because it decided to crap out.

On the bright side, I got off 4 shots while it was flickering and shot a really good group.

I think (not 100% sure) that there is a warranty on EOTechs. 5 Year maybe? As long as the hood hasn't been taken off, which voids the warranty. Email EOTech and see what they have to say.

Thanks for the advice, I wasn't sure because I wasn't the original owner.
Any how- all hope might not be lost. I played with it a bit more at home with proper light (bright outside at the range so it was hard to see what it was doing) and turns out the -one- time it actually turned on, it was faintly blinking- which means the batteries are almost dead.
New batteries still don't work, so I'm really hoping home hard wear sold me dead batteries rather then my sight being buggered.

I had a 552 go out in me after years of reliable service and a year in the dust bowl know as KC, A'stan.

I called Eotech CS and they said it was probably a gas issue. "Gas issue, what does that mean?"

Between the lenses, there's a layer of some gas that's pumped in during manufacture (to enhance the reticle). If it leaks out, you're SOL. Luckily, a trip to the US distributor/ CS facility and it's back to normal. It did cost me $100 USD because it was out of warranty.

Call Eotech and they'll email all the docs needed to send it to the US and get it back once they're done. Good luck.

If it turns out not to be a battery problem, then contact Eotech. They actually have very good warranty. My 7yr old Eotech died, and they repaired it for free. All I paid was shipping costs. I was very pleased with the service. Eotech will most likely refer you to Elite Defense who is the authorized repair center.

Thanks for the advice, it seems to be the on button. Could be gas however.
I bought new batteries, put them in and it worked fine for a few on/ off cycles (I had to hit the button just the right way). Then I got home, and I'm once again SOL, wont turn on again.

I'll try emailing eotech on monday.
As for the buy and aimpoint advice- I would but they don't work for me. I'm not sure why, but my glasses (bare eyes are fine) make the dots super fuzzy. 1 moa on the eotech looks like a blurry 5 moa and larger red dots look like a paint ball splatter. Don't know why lol but it sucks. I'm glad I have iron sights coming next week.

Classic eotec problem.
After 2oyrs and 3 different electronics companies owneing the design, still has the same issues.
Aimpoint all the way.
I. Was on the eotec crazy train for about 5yrs. But never again.

Yes I have the same problem with the blurry dot on my aimpoint, that's why I own 3 eotechs and just 1 aimpoint. I know aims are better but what's the point if I can't see sh!t.

Mine died in the 'stan after one month. Replaced the battery cover and new batteries. Still dead. Replaced it with a Comp M4 and the Aimpoint is still running on the same battery 4 1/2 years later and lots of shooting.

Getting an Aimpoint would be on the table, but a 25MOA dot tends to cover up to much of the target lol. (See post 10 about my damn glasses)
I'll see if I can get the eotech fixed but I'm going to get irons too so I don't get stuck again.

Ill never own a firearm without irons bolt guns included

Tech Tip--I keep a $5 small multimeter in my glove box with one reason for checking all batteries as soon as I buy them.I once bought a pack of Duracell D size from CTC and several where dead from new which I found out when trouble shooting a Mag Lite issue and were all brainwashed that Duracell are the best!Thanks--Dieseldog!

I feel you. All but two of my guns have irons as a back-up, or as primary sights. My Eotech has been fine, but, I've heard of many issues. I have a cop buddy in Washington, that teaches a lot of tactical training, (more certs than I can count, and military exp) and he swears by Eotech. Tell him they are crap.

I think the Aimpoint product is excellent, but I have several bushnell Trs-25's that hold zero, never need new batteries, have a decent, small clear dot with awesome brightness adjustment, and never fail for me, on any gun. They cost me $150 each. I have a Leupold Delta point, that in Canada, retails around $500. I think the TRS-25 is superior. I just can't justify cost without improvement, even if the product is excellent
