Do EOTech sights just die? (not battery related)

I'm another Aimpoint user. I used mine overseas and have the same experience as C77.

I have the opposite experience as you. The Eotech reticule is all f'd up for me, but the Aimpoint dot works great. Anyway, hope you can get something worked out.

Really? That's interesting. I assumed that if one looks messed up, they all would. I figured the tech was all pretty similar. Granted I've never actually used an Aimpoint, but vortex sparc, cheap-o red dots all looked messed up to me. If I get a chance to see one in person I'll give it a try. It'd be great if there was a dot I could see properly.
 
The Eotech is a pulsed laser. If you look at it with the naked eye, you see a pulsating reflection between the plates, making it look pixelated and fuzzy. If you look at it with a magnifier, the distance differential between the plates becomes negligble (just like looking though a screen door with binoculars), and the fuzziness and pixelations disappear entirely.

It is their way to acheive a holograhpic reticle that resists washout in sunlight, has a large sight picture and mininal splash from the front.
 
I love when people complain about a reticle.... the manufacturers make different ones....

My Eotech 512 has a 2MOA dot... that is it... I love the optic.

I do not like the ones with the 65moa ring either, so I got one that just had a dot.
 
I hear you trs 25 best red dot for the money there's a video were a guy drops his rifle from chest level optic first then submerged it in water and it still held zero

I think the Aimpoint product is excellent, but I have several bushnell Trs-25's that hold zero, never need new batteries, have a decent, small clear dot with awesome brightness adjustment, and never fail for me, on any gun. They cost me $150 each. I have a Leupold Delta point, that in Canada, retails around $500. I think the TRS-25 is superior. I just can't justify cost without improvement, even if the product is excellent

One of the guys posting in this thread did this to a DDM4 with an Aimpoint on it:


Not saying they're better but in this case I think you still get what you pay for.

As it stands I run an EOTech 552 on my Tavor right now but will probably switch to an Aimpoint sometime in the future. Just have to find the right one for a Tavor.

That's interesting. I noticed that as soon as I got a flip-to-side magnifier! It looks smooth as can be!

Ya, jeeze, nothing edited there :rolleyes: If it was a continuous running video, I would certainly pay more attention to it. During the "cuts", anything could have been altered for the rifle to run smoothly, or a replacement of the optic. Distressing things to make them appear damaged/used is simple.

Regardless, I have two Eotechs and an Aimpoint and I would go to Eotech any day of the week. That being said, I also like my Hensoldt RSA better than my Micro. However, if is hard to beat an Eotech/Magnifier combo -- of which I like a heck of a lot more than using the Specter DR (the Elcan isn't that bad either.. although it has its limitations -- though I believe it to be the best 4x optic going (not 1x)).

Of course there is editing. If there wasn't, the video would be about 3 days long. Ain't nobody got time fo dat! And again, you're right. Anything could have been altered to make the rifle and optic run smoothly during the time when the camera was turned off. So, being the sceptic that you are, you can feel free to PM the guy who ran the test and ask him if he sold his integrity for a pay check from DD and Aimpoint. I somehow doubt you're gonna do that though.
 
old thread..but I had good experiences with 2 eotechs..and 1 is lame. It is barely used...drains batteries over night (even if it is off)..Wolverine graciously offered to arrange to have it sent back and fixed for likely $120...but I just keep it in my back up bag. I ended up using the money to buy a Vortex unit. (the aimpoint looking unit)...very happy with it.
