Do I lose my 12(6) status if I sell my original 12(6) revolver?

I am a 12(6) on the basis of a 4" Llama .357 magnum revolver I purchased in 1987.

I have one other 12(6) revolver, a SW 12. If I were to sell the Llama (which originally qualified me to be grandfathered) and kept the SW 12, would I lose my 12(6) standing?

I think and hope no. I just want to make sure.

As long as you always have one registered you are ok.

(6) A particular individual is eligible to hold a licence authorizing that particular individual to possess a handgun referred to in subsection (6.1) if
(a) on December 1, 1998 the particular individual

(i) held a registration certificate under the former Act for that kind of handgun, or

(ii) had applied for a registration certificate that was subsequently issued for that kind of handgun; and

(b) beginning on December 1, 1998 the particular individual was continuously the holder of a registration certificate for that kind of handgun.

As long as you maintian one 12(6) prohib and your POL/PAL current then you keep your 12(6) status.

A friend just parted with his one & only 12(6) and before completing the transfer the CPFO had to specifically notify him that if he transfered this one firearm he lost his 12(6) status & grandfathering. Anyway, he went ahead and did it, so he's outta the 12(6) club forever.

So, as long as you keep one of the two you have you'd be okay.

What is said above is correct. Unfortunately I know a guy who sold his original prohib and lost his status even though he always had a 12(6).

Call the CFC, get an official opinion and get the name or employee number of the person who gives you the info just to be safe.

NAA. No offense intended but I think your buddy is nuts!

I hope you gave him a good smack upside the head for that one. :D :slap:

That why if you have one you should buy a second one just in case you sell one. I would only sell my 12(5) if I had another one. Once it is gone, it is gone for good.

I never have to worry about this. I could sell all my 12(6) guns and still keep my status. Why? because a gun that was stolen from me years ago ended up being 12(6) and that's how I got my status. hahahahahaha

I advised him 'intently' about it but he was adamant about going ahead. His one & only 12(6) was a wheelgun that hadn't seen a round down the pipe in at least 10 years. He was/is and always has been more of a rifle guy, anyway. As he put it, "I still have my rifles" and his decision was made with full info available. :(

This is good advice. Always maintain a couple in the inventory... ;)
