I like mil dots, you can use them for rough ranging, and for hold over. There's a sticky here with a bunch of mil dot information and formulas.
They're too much fun on a .22 rimfire for long range gopher shooting.
Couldn't agree more. I had a .22 cal 3-9 X 40 mm Tasco scope that was no good out of the box (actually, it came in a blister pack with a small pair of binoc's). Sent it in to the Canadian repair center. A couple weeks later I recieved a Tasco 'World Class' 3-9 X 40mm mil dot scope. Put it on my Ruger 10/22 and have been very happy with it.
I can shoot the bullseye out of a target at 25 and 50 yards with no trouble and took it over to the 100/200 yard range one day to test. Second dot down from the main horizontal beam is 'dead on' at 100 yards.
Would be awesome for shooting gophers.........
