do I NEED a new shotgun?

I use an SXP 3.5" for goose hunting, have been for the past 3 years. First day out I used the 3.5" shells, and it was no fun at the end of the day. Found out during the course of conversation with my hunting team, they were using 3" BB and were still getting them at the same distance I was, for a whole lot less pain and noise.

Switched to 3" shells, only difference I noticed was the reduced discomfort. Swapped choke tube for a friend Carlson Choke (Improved modified) instead of the factory one, IM as well, and noticed a tighter grouping. Got my own Carlson Choke, and haven't looked back

If you aren't going to start goose hunting seriously, just the odd time I would buy Bismuth and use your Auto5. Great gun and the Bismuth will make it as effective as ever.

I will save up towards a 10 gauge and you will be surprise how far you can knock them down even when they are not co-operating (not coming near the decoy).

Of course when the hunting pressure is low and when you setup a good blind sure 2 3/4 can kill them without many cripples but when the area is hot and filled with other hunters (sky buster) good luck on call them in closer than 50 yards.

I guess its all depends on how you hunt and how crowded it will be.

Not trying to start a new debate / argument but I have both 10 and 12 in 3.5" and you have to see it to believe what a mighty 10 can do I am sure other 10 gauge shooter will chime in and tell you the same.
