My first gun was a Glock 17, I shot it for awhile and then sold it and started trying other things, beretta 92fs, 1911, sigs, xdm, more glocks of different calibers, etc.. In the end the first gun that felt good to me still is my choice. A glock of any caliber is the right stuff for me, but im glad i did try all the other models, it helps to know whats out there.

I'm no expert but I think my Glocks have built in safeties....at least thats what the drill instructor told me when I went for my wknd holster course. The other students using HG's with safeties seem to be always slower off the draw. Some didn't even get a round off until I was thru my first mag....but I digress.
Now that I think about it I believe my revolvers don't have safeties...but then again I was taught to never put my finger on the trigger until....well you know the rest.

In IPSC if you have a safety on your gun, you must use it. So you have to draw disengage the safety then fire. What i loved about my glock when i did my black badge, i could just concentrate on form, just draw and shoot, no mucking with safeties.

I know what I like, and don't like about 1911's. I'm trying to understand what you don't like about Glocks.

Only thing I hate is deciding which to bring the 1911, GLOCK, BERETTA, SIG, S&W, pistol or revolver, 22lr, 9mm, 40, 357, 44,45 or 50 to the range. They're all GOOD.

I'v tried twice, a G17 gen3 and G17 gen4, I was grouping pretty much ok, but I find the recoil to much snappy, don't get me wrong, it is not that I don't like Glock , I am not a Glock hater at all, in fact one day I will probably have a G17, however I prefer my 1911 or my Beretta PX4 ... yes I also have a tupperware gun
I only found that often Glock people judge all other gun like crap gun, I prefer having a diversity of Brand/Model.
I am agree with burnaby's post, all guns have pros and cons, choice is personal.

I haven't shot a huge variety of HG's (like some of the experts here) but when I find something that works for me I usually stick with it. Glocks fall in this category for ME when I'm shooting 9mm or 45ACP. If another brands works for you....great!
Those GLOCK torture test are crazy. Take a look at the YT vid of dude dragging his GLOCK behind his truck. Trigger got real stiff with all the dirt packed in but still works.
In 9mm I like my G17 over the 1911 and 92F; Shadows are nice. Don't like 40, G22 was really snappy. 45ACP goes to 1911, just group better for me over the G21 and SIG. Too many choices, life is GOOD.

It's internal safety system is the main reason why I chose it over my other HG's for the holster course. I really started to appreciate my Glock by being able to get off that first round just focusing on my target and not having to fumble with any safeties. Follow up shots were quick using the great short trigger reset. I'm sure there are other HG's that do this but like I said...when I find something that works I usually stick with it.My gen4 G21 is the softest shooting 45ACP I own. As a result I'm down to one 1911 now.
I enjoy practical shooting vs focusing on tight groups. YMMV

Get the Glock. Ruger makes great HGs. But they dont hold any value on trade in. Parts for the Glock are everywhere. Ruger revolvers on the other hand are built like a tank and hold up at trade in time.
What's your dilema? Sig's are nice but I personally did not like the DA/SA in my P220. They almost break down as easy as a Glock. Detailed stripping and ease goes to the Glock IMO.
With almost 50% less parts than the average semi you would think Glocks would be half as expensive as the other makes
