Do I really want a Desert Eagle? **Quick range report on post 85**

I have a .44 and it's a lot of fun to shoot. Needs hot ammo to cycle properly, so be aware of that, either most factory or load your own at or near max. I even got a holster for it so I could use it at ipsc practise just for gits and shiggles. Double taps with my glock are quick pop, pop, whereas with the deagle it's more like Boom,...........Boom!!!

They're stupid big, just like clown shoes, but who doesn't think clowns are fun???

It's a big gun if you have small hands, every time I've picked one up I just can't get beyond "wow this is big".

Im a bit biased as I'm partial to wheel guns anyway, but with my 629 you can always load down the magnums or shoot specials if you want.

I always thought the first DE (IMI Mark1) was designed for 357 and/or 44….learn something everyday.

You may very well be right. It was what I was told, years ago - never researched to verify the accuracy of it. Seemed plausible, so I believed it.

Don't get caught up in the slide not closing after firing crap. Most people can't hold on to it and can't control the recoil. It happened to me often the first few rounds. It's a learning curve, once you figure it out it will never happen. Not the pistols fault lol!

The Desert Eagle was indeed originally available in .357 Magnum, with the .44 version introduced shortly afterwards. The .50 model wasn't until a number of years later.

Life is too short. Hey if you have the itch, scratch it. If you don't like it you can easily flip it.

I picked one up thinking I'd shoot it a little then flip it, but I ended up liking it. Sure, not practical, but it is fun to shoot a couple mags at the end of the range trip, or especially when you bring out some friends. 44 is a good way to go. I also picked up a 50 barrel for s&g's, but the DE is just as fun in 44 to me. Mine works great with standard American Eagle JSPs or Hornady Leverevolution

Sorry for the misinformation - you and the other gentleman are right - the .50 AE came later. I'll have to do more reading, before I open my big mouth.

###y finish on that DE... what is the finish on it?

Nice gun Dawgie.

Recoil is indeed fun. If you're going for straight recoil, get a revolver there's some kick for you. I've got a 4" 44 mag and that's just stupid to shoot full house (but a lot of fun). The DE won't be as wild but it's Robocop's original blaster too...Get it (then let me shoot it!)

Pretty sure robocops gun was a modified Beretta 93... I think the bad guys used the Desert Eagle if my memory serves me right.

I've shot a 2.5 or 3" M 29 in my foolish days. Do not want to go there again.
The DE is great in that you get the bang and flash of the .44 but the recoil of a.357.

It is fun for sure (but ain't no Automag ;-)
I had a 4" 629 for awhile. I think it had perfect dimensions and balance for an N frame but it was hard for me to shoot more than a few cylinders and that was with rather pedestrian factory magnum loads. Can't image what recoil would feel like with real full-house loads or out of a 2.5" gun. So for sure, 44 in the DE is like cheating.

I was thinking about one a few years ago as well, as I wanted something overpowered and ridiculous, just for fun. Got to fire one, and as it didn't fit my hand very well (though it was fun), I decided to go with a 460v revolver instead. Now THAT thing's fun!

If I was looking for a fun blaster the 460 would be top of my list. I had a 460v and it was super accurate, the recoil was manageable but it was very loud, that's for sure.
