So, what with starving bear armies marching southward here in BC, I am cautiously eying my stick welder. But I am not well versed in the ways of metalwork and would welcome practical improvements.
I would cut the feed lip off 1 mag, put 2 mags in vise, sand and weld incompetently. I would then cut down the 2 springs and connect with copper tube and solder (see below). I would start with a long spring and shorten as needed. The Canadaammo "aftermarket" mags are $30 each, so $60 for a potential 12-round mag.
Baseplate-to-baseplate would not allow disassembly. The ability to load slugs in one end and buck on the other would be of limited novelty.
So, any design or construction improvements? Not the bottom picture, the top one.
